Grace had a lot of fun, I think this will be another Venom. Split the critics but be popular with audiences

Why do you care what this crazy woman thinks?  And to be clear, my emphasis here is on "crazy" -- I have nothing against her as a woman.  But it's not like she has a doctorate in superhero movies (and yes, that can be a real thing), she's just someone who got lucky with a YouTube channel and a few "connections."  She's not even a real journalist, nor a real "film critic."  She literally came from comic book work.

Sony's plan for 50 Spider-man villain spin offs is in danger.

They desperately need some different IP's.

They want to sell a villain team-up when they've been portraying their villains (besides Keaton) as anything but "sinister".

Spoiler

Also, it's weird that Keaton's character seems to be the Nick Fury of the team. You would think Gyllenhaal's Mysterio would be more apt for that role, they wouldn't even need to show his face.

Sony's not gonna drop all of their plans because of critic opinions, just look at venom.

But they should

And there's a difference between breaking even/profit and making profit like Venom-what, over 250m theatrically and probably 100m or so with ancillaries

How much is this even looking to finish with WW? 250-300m?

With the budget reportedly as low as it is, 190m is the range or so. But still, Sony isn't making this for penny investments. They want a universe. And with meager profits at best, terrible reviews, and very likely mediocre audience reception.. it's looking like a swing and a miss here

Sony is still predicting a ROIC of 6.8% on SPE for this FY, which includes NWH. The TV side also has higher margins than the movie side. SPE is the lowest ROIC division in the entity and the reason a lot of stockholders want to see them divest it, but Sony will be happy with any type of profit for this movie. The reason the budget is not lower than 75MM is because that is the lowest it has to be as per the contract. To your point they want a universe so they can try and bring that division up to the level of the others. They want their own MCU.

People here are obsessed in putting WW84 in this kind of discussion when it was nowhere near dragged as the movies cited here.

Grace just liked the movie, and that's ok?

Especially when Marvel’s very own “Eternals” is right there lol

Y'all are being a little dramatic.  This movie will still probably easily get Sony a profit regardless of the terrible scores.  Sony's not gonna drop all of their plans because of critic opinions, just look at venom.

Venom the MOST iconic Spidey Villain Which had 200+m from China to help it vs one of the most inconsequential Spidey villian. It's like comparing Joker vs The Condiment King

I agree with everything you say. But the single thing that made it worth for me was this

Spoiler

Sinister Six buildup. Could have been alot better as you say. But just to know that its coming. And if Spiderman is in it, Feige is in it. That gives me hope. Because Sony can`t hold a candle to MCU and this turd confirms it again

not a fan of jared leto. over rated actor that hollywood seem to keep pushing, dallas buyers club was uncomfortable viewing despite getting oscars. Joker didnt pan out either- he was a poor joker.

I tried to give Leto the benefit of the doubt when it came to Joker. He didn’t choose the makeup and design. He didn’t write the dialogue or direct the movie, BUT that scene at the end of ZSJL killed any doubt I had left. Dude sucked.

Eternals is less boring than WW84 but both are quite boring. Eternals is saved by the action scenes the WW84 lacked. Also the first WW is the best DCEU film so for there to be such a decline in quality between the original and the sequel was really shocking. Like going from Batman Returns to Batman Forever.
