four of the movies in the top 10 of '95 barely cracked 100mil. BOM kinda trails off on their box office but i do wonder how long it took to drag them past the finish line.

I checked Se7en's box office right now and they stopped tracking it on November 17 at $1.6M only for it to come back on January 12 with $1.5M.  Double features with Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace really helped them out.

A Wrinkle in Time got lucky with its last 8 weeks in release with having position with re-expansions and double bills.  I don't think Rampage will find much luck on its back 8 weeks unless the Sunday to Monday collapse isn't as bad as history shows with other double bills that get almost everything on Fri and Sat.  Perhaps weekdays will push Rampage towards 98.5 ensuring another re-release, but I just don't think the schedule will favor it the way it did for AWIT, I think.

if there is a bottom line that the Rampage film's WW revenue improves much more with 100m domestic vs 98m domestic, then it could add more with double bills on WB's Teen Titans and The Meg.

Rampage should be available on Tuesday, July 17th, approximately ten days before the release of Teen Titans.

The Meg is on Friday, August 10th and so far in 2018 it seems reported figures for 2018 releases (and late 2017 releases) show life at the box office even a month after the home platform market becomes available.

and universal overestimated it just to have “an 150 million” opening weekend at a time when almost all studios are extremely careful in their estimates.

Dont see much difference apart from the fact that we had to constantly read for three years that 600 million was the celing for a CBM in the U.S. and reading wall of text after wall of text why x upcoming CBM will disappoint.

Hmm let's see, over the last couple months I don't recall many people expecting FK to challenge JW1 opening vs many people expecting AOU to best TA. To AOU credit only falling 16 million short from it is really impressive IMO. Like I said earlier, people dragged it because we kept hearing a 100 million OD was going to happen throughout the day.

As for the CBM has reached a ceiling argument, I always found that line of thinking as pretty wack. You know how many times that phrase has been used before? Spider-man was the ceiling, then TDK, then TA, and now I'm assuming it's BP. I'm sure people will say I2 is the ceiling for animated movies as well. If there are ceiling's then they are glass ones that are meant to be shattered.

It's not as if most of these movies didn't get attempted pushes by their studios  The problem was they were many were starting too far back for the push or didn't have any other movies to try and double feature off.

For example - Legally Blonde.  they started with an expansion when it was at $90m and then they tried three more times until the PTA was  $186 and they were still  $3.5m behind.  MGM tried to push it up that hill again and again, they just ran out of options.  Not every studio has the balls of Sony and what they did with SPECTRE and it's unexplainable (w/o even double bill) huge PTA jumps.

🤔

Of them I2  (-21.2%) had the lowest Sunday drop by far.  It's just that Disney always overestimates AIW and Solo Sunday drops.

the studios ultimately control how long a film will last.  it could be like working out and setting a 100M race record every time that you never wish to do again, but you always limp towards.  Or cooking in a timely fashion.  Big control, lots of theaters.
