Weekend Thread | An Asgardian pops in on p.9 ~ HTTYD3 17m, A:BA 3.1m, IIR 2.2m

Overseas totals for foreign films havent been updated on mojo in almost a month, its not just The Wondering Earth.

Also, harder to compare Dragon2 with 1 or 3 since it opened in the middle of summer where the days behave much differently. It also had big previews for the time.

Between the early and Thursday previews (I like to think of both combined in preview numbers, since early previews take away from Thursday's gross after all), this made 5.5M...... more than twice what Lego 2 had with combined previews :ohmygod:

I wonder if it will be much frontloaded or not, but it definitely should not miss 40M for the 3-days with a 3M Thursday alone. Hopefully it breaks into the 50's and we have the rare trilogy where each entry outopened the previous one.

That could be like a complete OW reverse from what the ”Kung Fu Panda”-films did, (where those films made less and less with each one).

Universal will be pleased that their first DWA film has opened well, oddly I think the five year gap and the fact it's the final film in the trilogy will have helped rather than hindered.

Fighting with my Family was clearly a passion project for Dwayne Johnson but I'm not surprised it's not taken off in the US but Seven Bucks and Film4 already made a profit through selling to MGM and MGM likely won't lose much or break even since they  sold OS rights.

Tri-quel expected to be the last chapter will have some front-loading.

3.0

11.5 [14.5 OD]

18.0 (+56.5% ; +24%)

12.5 (-30.5%)

= 45.0 OW / 47.5 including 2.5 pre-previews

I have used OD = 4.8x the previews. LEGO2 did 4.0x.

ALITA back to 9.0 on Maoyan after 50k ratings. Started at 9.0 and had dipped to 8.9 after 30k.

Edit: @efialtes76 says it started at 9.1

DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is looking really good with an estimated$15M today, including last night’s $3M, on its way to $52M-$54M for the weekend. That does not include the $2.5M from Fandango previews. The threequel released by Universal has about 26 Imax hubs and a good deal of PLFs working in its favor out of its 4,259 locations.

I would guess that the theater count wasn't updated last week. It lost 0 theater according to BOM, which seems unlikely.

I remember it was supposed to be down to 1,264 theaters last week. That was the number on the theater counts page. Dunno why it was backtracked after the weekend numbers came in.

Bumblebee's numbers are fishy too. Why would it have lost just 188 theaters last week, with its weekend PTA already below 1k?
