I’m probably late but I think we should really only compare Endgame’s legs to the legs of all of the previous films that opened with $357m.

Well, just that some people, after achieving the big goal of 357M, now cherish it less, and try to be revisionist in expectation, and go like this:

OW (weekend) - 307M (record OW) (50M shifted away...)

2nd weekend - 157M (record 2nd weekend, beating TFA) (being added 10M)

3rd weekend - 103M (record 3rd weekend, beating TFA) (being added 40M)

(granted even with this shifting TFA would have earned more in weekdays from 2nd week onwards)

Another reason I believe Endgame is falling harder than most people would like is during its OW, many people were forced to get 3D showings due to 2D showings being in higher demand. That brought the 3D share up to 46% in its OW, a pretty high number in 2019.

But once the demand goes down, the 2D share goes up and 3D goes down. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 3D share is below 20% now. So the amount of people watching week to week might not be as steep as it looks, but in terms of real dollars it’s feeling it.

In addition to quite some unique reasons for the OW, also opening week, that is probably also playing into 'major' impacting points. Thanks a lot for bringing that up!

Yeah, that's really the key. The opportunities to set some of these records are super rare, would have loved to see another 1-5 fall.

Also, LMFAO at someone suggesting that I find someone that hasn’t seeing any other Marvel Studios film ever. This thing has 21 films prior to this, we have internet, cable, social media, Netflix, piracy, etc. The only way for someone have this as his/her first film is if (s)he was in a coma.

I'll tell that to a lot of mothers at the school I work for, who never saw even one MCU, no Star Trek, no Avatar, no Star Wars... or any  other Sci-Fi / CBM. And yes, that included at TV at home.

Btw, at least one of our janitors (I only asked him as he has children and the oldest being in the 'right' age, who also has not seen nearly all of those, only the one movie I did watch with him and a few others some time back - the son, not the father), who is in his mid '40 has also not seen an MCU's and I think not a lot of Sci-Fi in general neither.

Cliché ~ hand-craft who has neither the time not the interest to sit before the TV beside watching the news and some local / country specific ~ knowledge ... things (forgot the term). I know quite a lot of those in a very rural region here too.

This right here is what detached reasonable reason sounds like... 25 years huh? Same.... TTVOMJ

I started to look loosely - in comparison to later years - for BO details in 1978, as a certain franchise starter (SW) got here released (then still called West Germany 9 February 1978). More in-depth starting in the '80, till some years back in part rather a lot, the last ~ 5 years less, as simply too often no time

😉

Huh, that means last year I had a kind of 40 years milestone I totally missed

As long as I do not forget this year's silver wedding anniversary (2nd marriage)... and hubby's 65th birthday ~ 3 weeks later...

:slaphead:

Ugh, I'll have to focus more on the remodelling here at home (and a big project in school I work for since around 4 years and acc. to myself has to be finished at the end of June), I guess we will need a wood dust free ... space for some parties in late autumn!

Most astounding figure to me will be when Wick’s weekend estimate has a higher per theater average than MI: Fallout.

Think about that for a second. How hyped and amazing Fallout was. The sixth instalment of the premium action franchise in town - and Wick is pulling in the same kind of numbers.

Years later same posters still invoking conversation surrounding Snyder. Whether people hated them or were among those that liked them,  I'd say 99% moved on and yet there are the few who can't seem to let it go.  It's still a weekly occurrence in here. 🤣

Mods.....

There’s 9 pinned threads just now, it’s a bit much.

Other content is getting lost down the bottom.

Can some of them be moved elsewhere, the general chat ones, TV, sports ones and games*?

*Theres something called Box office Casino that no one has clicked on since 28th March. Surely there’s no demand to have it pinned.

Titanic was a long time ago. Before social media and peer pressure to watch movies was a thing lol. Now we have a percentage of population that don't watch movies for the love of it. That's because that's whats trending and they want to be part of it. Today's audiences don't keep re-watching movies in the theater they will just wait for it to come to netflix to watch it again if they liked it.

You must be pretty young to think peer pressure was invented with social media xD TTVOMJ

Not that many people were complaining about Shazam's release date prior to release. The low key marketing had more to do with its modest performance more than anything IMO.

Umm 😐 I complained about it. And while I don’t think she posted about it @captainwondyful and I had discussions about it and how we thought WB completely screwed it up. But I also complained about the marketing too.

In either case, I was told that everything was fine and it won’t get affected....

After RTE’s estimates, since Endgame is playing like Infinity War’s fourth weekend, I see it doing barely $30M this weekend and here’s how:

Friday - $7,371,000

Saturday- $13,046,670 (+76.2%)

Sunday - $9,537,115 (-26.9%)

Meaning it’s fourth weekend numbers will be $29,954,785 million domestic, rounding near to $30M per Box Office Mojo (a 52.7% drop), on par with Infinity War’s 52.6% drop in it’s fourth weekend.
