That sounds low for #MulanMovie, how much will the inevitable delay in China hurt it?

Gretel and Hansel will be lucky to make its budget back this weekend. At least it only cost 5M to make, so it should be in the clear financially.

Rhythm Section though  that thing cost 50M, and it's likely going to be one of the lowest openers in 3000+ theatres (honestly I think 3M is where it's gonna land at this point).

Wow, I didn’t realize the TC cracked 3000. I was literally wondering yesterday if Hoot’s record would ever be broken, and here we are with a legit shot 🤣

Quite a bit I think. I think theaters will only reopen after Mulan goes on home video. SARS outbreak started around the same time, ended in June. This could go on for longer and Mulan will go on home video start of June, end of July and by then the movie would have been pirated. Even if theaters reopen before then, paranoia will still affect the turnout rate.

I see China has stopped making the claim they will have a vaccine by April, a cliam most medical experts were dismissing as just a PR statement to clam things down. Vaccines simply don't get researched  and tested that quickly.

I mean they will probably have a vaccine ready for testing by April, maybe even in March (it's the fastest part of vaccine development) but it's going to take at least another 3 months to test it.

Preview numbers as expected were awful as expected. Gretel & Hansel looked like dump material. The Rhythm Section was better off as Netflix material like Blake’s hubby 6th Underground was a few months back.

Overall this has been so far from Jan. 1-31 2020 has been a rollercoaster in general. In the news: we’ve had the death of Kobe Bryant. Corona Virus, and crazy political debates.

Also on a movie/box office level thus far has been so far excellent! Who would’ve thought Bad Boys For Life would be our first $150 million grosser of the year?

Next month I have a feeling we will have a few more breakouts, Harley Quinn could perform like what Ant-Man was to Guardians Of The Galaxy. Sonic won’t be the hit of Pikachu was last year, but if reviews come in positive play then it’s best target would be Kingsman 1’s opening.

Fantasy Island reminds me of a PG-13 Cabin In The Woods. Which would be a solid target for Fantasy.

The Invisible Man is an honorable mention to help out in February. However, it will make most of it’s cash in March.

2nd Update: Sony’s third weekend of Bad Boys for Life will easily defeat both wide entries over Super Bowl, Orion/UAR’s Gretel & Hansel and Paramount/IM Global/Eon’s Rhythm Section with an estimated $17.5M, -49%. Not only that but hold overs like Universal/Amblin’s 1917 and Uni’s Dr. Dolittle also whipping the new competition as well in spots 2 and 3 with $9.4M and $7.7M respectively. No one really wants to see Gretel & Hansel which is seeing $6.2M over three days or Blake Lively’s Rhythm Section at $3M. As several execs have griped to me this morning: You can’t beat the Rotten Tomatoes scores on either film (59% and 28% Rotten).

I did not expect both The Rhythm Section and Gretel & Hansel to get 3,000+ theatre counts, on Super Bowl weekend no less. Unfortunately it looks like the higher than expected theatre counts are going to do nothing to help the overall OW. Both are going to open pretty low and have terrible PTA's.
