FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE WEEKEND THREAD | Read the first post for the rules

Recommended Posts

Given the lackluster Thursday, I'm bound to believe weekend heavy numbers for most films. That said with an 18M Friday, the best it'll likely do is 38M. It may still creep over 100M, but barely crawling past an 11 yo film's OD from the same franchise doesn't instill any confidence.

As someone who mostly enjoyed CoG I really don't think this one is a better movie. Most of the problems remain, the only improvement is Grindelwald himself. I was bored in several scenes and there are way too many uninteresting characters and subplots that are pointless and lead nowhere or are too quickly and unsatisfyingly resolved.  Not surprised at the audience reaction.

Eddie Redmayne is one of those actors where the more I've seen of them, the less I like them.

This describes everyone related to Les Mis (2012)

I guess Mads isn't franchise viagra.

Can't wait for Dwayne Johnson to be Grindlewald next movie.

Why should I go see a movie with him, when I can watch some of his other projects, that aren’t as problematic?

I always think of the Robert Evans quote from the 1970s when he started working over at paramount: People don’t go to the movies anymore. People go see a movie.

He said that 50 years ago and it still applies. I just don’t think people wanna see the movie. We can debate why till we’re blue in the face, Doesn’t change that it appears that people don’t want to see the movie.

At this point, people might be better off watching ASMR videos of people reading or role playing Harry Potter than seeing The Secrets of Dumbledore. Or just watching the original films.

It's really true. If you're not a Marvel movie, Disney remake (GIVE ME LIVE ACTION FROZEN ALREADY YOU COWARDS) or a great big franchise movie like Fast and Furious or Jurassic, you might as well start making films for streaming.......or reinvision them as streaming series.

Omg, I remember some month ago we were talking about how overcrowded this late-march and april was. So the so called “overcrowded” marketplace is that out of 4 openers, only one managed to pass 100m total comfortably? Not to mention we may miss 100m weekend total for this Easter!

Our moviegoing is suffering long covid for sure.

Saw Uncharted again tonight. I think I was too harsh on it last time, it’s a fun movie. Totally understand the legs on it.

Sony probably waiting to schedule uncharted 2 a few months after the next Spider-Man movie, so that the sequel can also ride the SM coattails.

It's not just that Grindelwald was that awful, it's also that this movie didn't look like it was enough of a departure from that as well. When you have an awful previous movie, you need the next movie to really deliver and look like something worth watching and different.

It's like the first Purge movie was really bad, it opened high but died almost immediately. The next one actually looked different and delivered on the concept of the first movie and actually managed to increase.

This 100%. Nothing in Secrets of Dumbledore's trailers look any different than Crimes of Grindelwald.

For example, Crimes of Grindelwald's marketing heavily featured Grindelwald giving a speech to spectators. Secrets of Dumbledore's marketing also heavily featured Grindelwald giving a speech to spectators. "Our war with the muggles BEGINS. TODAY.

FWIW, what I'm seeing in BC suggests a 14.5-15.5M true Friday. 20.5-21.5M full Friday. That being said, maybe BC just plays stronger for Fantastic Beasts than other areas, I don't know.

Father Stu isn't even worth comping in Canada; we don't have the faith-based market that the US does.

Do you have a % vs previews?
