Eric Prime
But hey, if I can inject some positivity, though it's not MCU related, I'm starting to feel like Dominion not only has a shot at winning the summer but could (emphasis on could) open above Jurassic World. Not saying it's a definite possibility, but they're using the right hooks to their advantage, both in the "dinos invading the world" hook and the nostalgia bait stuff. I absolutely hated both Jurassic World movies, and even I'll admit the trailers do a good job at selling the carnage and tickling the nostalgia feels that I'm honestly kind of tempted, even though I know I will walk out despising it. Could also be I just have a giant crush on Laura Dern though lmao

Not gonna name names, but when the Love and Thunder trailer came out, a user who has a source in the industry said the film was having issues behind the scenes and that they were having some kinks in the editing process, mainly that the comedy wasn't landing at all. This is obviously fixable, since a good edit of a joke can go a long way, movies get cut again and again, and I don't subscribe to the "bad production = bad movie" mantra a lot of people, albeit trolls, follow. And you know, second-hand "I heard it from a guy" comments are flimsy. But I have thought about it quite a bit, so you never know. 🤷♂️

And I really hate when people say a film's going to be a failure because of production issues or heavy reshoots or bad test screenings, because those mean nothing and bad productions happen all the time. But I really wanted to get this off my chest...I don't really have a lot of confidence in Love & Thunder or BP 2 at this point, even though I'm super excited for both. Both will obviously be in the top 5 for the year, but I think they'll also have creative missteps that could lead to waning interest for future movies. We already have early word that Thor 4 isn't shaping up so hot, though that obviously can change with future cuts and edits, Strange 2 already went through heavy reshoots to mixed results, and the set of Black Panther 2 seemed like it was a total nightmare. Can't emphasize enough that I will likely be wrong, but this all feels like a slew of bad events one after another that give me bad vibes. That the cracks are starting to form and Marvel's no longer going to be top dog like it used to be. Which hey, nothing lasts forever. And it's kind of ironic considering all those Avatar sequels are around the corner. Jimbo really does play 4D chess with these movies. And just letting Legion and XXR know, since I know you guys will "Haha" my post, say that everything will be hunky-dory and talk about how people are complaining over nothing, that I do know for a fact the MCU will still be successful for decades to come. There will still be plenty of movies and shows, they will still make millions in profits, the big boy event movies will be massive, the smaller movies will still be huge, they will still be loved by fans and the GA, etc. Just that the franchise won't be as gigantic or talked about as it was in Phase 3 and that they won't be the biggest game in town for a variety of reasons. That's not a bad thing, that doesn't mean the series is in shambles, things are still fine. Please don't start an argument with me on this. MCU is gonna still make loads of money but honestly dont think will get close to the consistency of the infinity saga. Just way too many moving parts for me. Excited for what they do with the previous fox marvel properties . As for the current slate im majorly intersted in thor and the guardians which seem to be on their way out
Krissykins
A steep drop for Doctor Strange 2 but at least it isn’t in the 70’s I guess. Terrible for Firestarter. It’s in 3,400 locations. Heading for a PTA barely above $1k. Scream remains the only horror to open over $5m in 2022. Yikes. After horror performed so well throughout the pandemic I wonder why studios barely had any high profile ones scheduled for the first 6 months of this year.
BadOlCatSylvester
Unsurprisingly the divisive word of mouth is kicking in for Strange. I'm still thinking it passes $400M domestically, but barely. $1B worldwide isn't exactly guaranteed either. I wonder if Marvel might try to get Derrickson back for part 3, since at least the first film was significantly less divisive.

After the trailer dropped an user with a realiable source said on the thread that the movie was having a big problem in the editing room few weeks before he posted because of many jokes not landing. With that said, the movie went into some quick reshoots, so maybe they changed some things since jokes aren't that hard to fix (or cut). And around the same time quickly after reshoots the movie was tested screened and get excellent reception (something that DS2 for example never had). I wouldn't worry about it, when an MCU project is facing major production problems we always ended up knowing, just look at NWH / DS2 / BP2 situations. Thor was very smooth, even the reshoots was very quiet and quick.
Zakiyyah6
Kevin Feige is being spread too thin with overseeing the disappointing MCU television shows, the MCU films and the Star Wars stuff he's working on. I guess they can't rush a course correction because that will make things worse but they better do one eventually.

Cooper Legion
Man 17 is rough. Definitely 400 and 1B are in doubt (though like 980M in the markets it released in is still pretty formidable). As you can see from my username though I don’t exactly find this development undeserved or heartbreaking, The comments overreacting from this to the whole fate of the mcu are just as funny as last weekend. It is true though that if L&T or WF are fumbles it could create some real damage with lasting consequences.

They're gonna co-exist perfectly, but still . . . . I was expecting a D or an F for Firestarter. That is suprisingly higher than I thought it would be. sounds like your average Joe about MCU movies for the past decade. As big a fan as I am, there’s nothing more annoying in cinema than joe public hitting Wikipedia after a mid-credits scene if you go opening weekend. It’s like a guaranteed cellphone light show. exomassey
I don’t know with the MCU anymore. After Eternals only made 160m domestic, I was like shit maybe the MCU isn’t the powerhouse it used to be. Maybe the MCU is just becoming more front-loaded especially with its drop in quality. Also maybe calling a movie ENDGAME was a mistake. If people are made to feel like it’s the END, why so soon after do you double down on the amount of MCU content lol.

Brainbug
Also, thats an oof Friday for Strange but i think a bad second weekend drop was pretty much guaranteed for the movie since the mix of Very frontloaded OW + mixed WOM is a very bad combination for holding power on the sophomore weekend. Key to 400M (which i still believe it will reach) is now that it is stabilizing on the 3rd weekend and going forward.

This comment and multiple others the last couple pages about the MCU are all cherry picked and highly selective confirmation bias that doesn't seem to be based in reality. People are talking like the MCU has been on some death spiral or isn't a powerhouse after Endgame. Seriously? Since Endgame you have had a global pandemic that ravaged theaters. Despite that, Black Widow opened up in the middle of it while also day and date and made some decent money after delays and other issues. Then you had Shang-Chi which was very successful and well received. Eternals was high concept and did ok. Was a longer and tougher film that had a more dour and serious tone. Then you have No Way Home, which also despite being released in the middle of arguably the biggest wave of the pandemic, is the #6 grossing movie of ALL-TIME and would have been #4 if China would have opened it. Huge, mind boggling numbers and the film is beloved. Doctor Strange 2 then opens to nearly $200m and will finish likely above $1b. Thor: Love and Thunder will do the same. The shows on Disney+ are wildly successful What are we even talking about here? 14

It’s not meeting the amazing quality avg of 2014-aeg but it’s hardly some disaster either unless we pile up a few more B’s soon.

But a franchise with 28+ movies having only a few movies where the overall consensus was mixed-to-bad is absoutely unheard of.
