Some people in the comments are trying to explain this but it's they probably didn't believe there would be a sequel which is fine. It just a movie that we can't think too harshly

It will be sad when this people discover that the original movie and the sequel are not psychology classes, at least the first is one of most gen z favourite animated movie 💙

How big are we thinking domestically?

On a serious note, I dont want to predict this early. But looking at other favorites like DeadPool 3, Joker 2, Mufasa and Despicable Me 4, I think this movie has a good chance. 1st 2 are genre which seem to have lost the core audience, Mufasa is after TLK 2019 which was terrible and DM3 itself dropped quite a bit form DM2. Inside Out is among the best animated movies of the last decade and the potential is there. Especially based on themes seen in the teaser.

Had this at 300m+ originally due to Pixars woes. But teaser is great and buzz really strong.

Finding Dory  is where I would put it. Another heavy nostalgia sequel.

Also think DM4 is going to jump too Domestically . Illumination post covid has really revived after a slump in 2019. Thought minions 2 was primed for those big dropoffs but it ended up grossing more domestically and a healthy WW total.

Fun fact: even's Illumination's 2019 underperformer (Pets 2) which dropped a massive 60%+ from the first movie still made $118M in profits.

People are forgetting Sing 2 made less than Sing 1. Granted it faced Spider-Man No Way Home and was profitable but saying every Illumination sequel does gangbusters simply isn't true.

During a pandemic lol. Pretty important context to ignore.

I have noticed via my job that the term “core memory” is a major staple phrase on gen z social media. Now whether all of them are aware/trying to reference the first film when they use it is certainly debatable, but if so, yeah I can kinda see the argument for massive gen z nostalgia here.

Fandango is doing an offer where you get some free Inside Out 2 tickets if you buy fandango tickets for Soul, Turning Red, and Luca.

While I do plan on seeing all these movies I don't know if I will do it via fandango.

the trailer didn't impress me much when I saw it online, but seeing it in theaters today it was a different story

the way the trailer tells us about the new emotions (other than anxiety) that will show up is great
