The first trailer got 33 million views. That's superhero movies number. Trailer views ain't everything but clearly some real interest exists.

Wish MTC1

Tuesday - 38872/392599 562292.08 2597 shows

Wednesday - 41240/728718 553252.58 4779 shows

~1.7m previews going by Encanto comps. Its possible Encanto did better overall considering it was better received and probably would have played more diverse as well. But Wish will come on its own tomorrow. I expect it to win the weekend overall despite finishing below Napoleon today.

Edit: this does not include early shows. Studios seem to keep them out of previews. They seem to be added to Friday shows number based on TMNT or MI7.

The Wednesday continue to be good :

Wish (T-2):

Wednesday - 27557/680570 376089.33 4366 shows +5860

Trolls 3 :

Friday (T-1) - 24520/607494 349759.46 4099 shows +4531
Friday - 34961/608443 496361.99 4115 shows

Elemental MTC1 Friday - 43508/593644 600614.84 4256 shows

Trolls 3 played like Elemental in the final day and Wish ,yesterday, had better pace than Trolls 3 so i think 8,5-9M true Wednesday , 10,2-10,7 with Tuesday previews so i think, if the movie will have bad WOM , 42-45M 5 Days OW, if it's better maybe 50M is possible

Minneapolis-St. Paul Area Previews:

Wish (T-4):

Day: T-4, T-1 Shows New Sold Seats % Sold
Tuesday: 20 theaters 102 67 260 12149 2.14
Saturday Nov 18 EA: 9 theaters 9 112 281 1100 25.55
TOTALS: 111 179 541 13249 4.08

Type of tix: Total: New: Percentage:
PLFs: 5 5 0.92
MTC1: 249 69 46.03
Marcus: 110 37 20.33
Alamo: 7 4 1.29
Other chains: 175 69 32.35

Tuesday Comps:

1.35x Haunted Mansion (THU): $4.18 Million

0.3x Paw Patrol (FRI): $2.03 Million

2.3x Trolls: Band Together: $2.64 Million

Average: $2.95 Million

EA Comp:

0.29x Trolls: Band Together Saturday EA: $290k (assuming 1 million that has been thrown around in this thread, reallyyyyyyy hope we can get a Trolls EA number... @Shawn any luck for this??)

0.43x MI7 SUN + MON EA: $850k

0.24x Barbie EA: $260k

Wish's EA seems like it'll be way lower than Trolls, a lot less interest for that. Pegging it at around $250-500k. For Tuesday? Well I just lost the TMNT comp, which was far and away the best one so.... don't think I'll be of much help with this one sadly.

Napoleon (T-4):

Day: T-4 Shows New Seats Sold Seats % Sold
Totals: 19 theaters 62 134 406 8960 4.53

Type of tix: Total: New: Percentage:
PLFs: 276 100 67.98
MTC1: 195 59 48.03
Marcus: 95 30 23.4
Alamo: 46 9 11.33
Other chains: 70 36 17.24

Comps:

0.6x KOFM: $1.57 Million

1.69x The Creator (THU): $2.28 Million

0.15x Oppy: $1.59 Million

0.3x MI7 (just TUE): $2.1 Million

Average: $1.89 Million

Keeps on rising, looking close at that MI7 comp since the weekend being in the middle of these final days always throws a wrench into the pace of things. But not too shabby, all things considered.

The studio has been mum on the EA number so far, unfortunately; they only confirmed that $1.3 million was from Thursday and that EA was included somewhere in the weekend numbers.

Deadline listed it as 1.1m in their article, but it appears to have not been rolled into the OW unlike other recent movies.

Trolls EA $1.17m?

Looking at Mojo and Numbers they didn't seem to roll it into the weekend as total gross is different from 3 day total.

Date Rank Gross % Change Theaters Per Theater Total Gross Week
Nov 17, 2023 2 $30,002,525   3,870 $7,753   $31,172,525 1

Could be my delusional history fan nerd soul talking, but between Oppenheimer beeing a massive hit, KOTFM doing quite respectable numbers and now Napoleon looking like a potential small breakout - maybe people are gaining interest again in historical movies/epics like in the early 2000s?

I for one would welcome that development.

Nah, it is just superhero genre flopping so hard that it is now making the historical drama movie looks good by comparison, not an actual gaining ground. Oppenheimer is an outlier.

I am not sure if we can really be sure of that with such a small sample size, but if true that would be great news for Gladiator 2... That might be big, really big.

Horizon: An America Saga sweep incoming!

Also seems like a good sign for Gladiator 2 next November, with Scott returning, plus one of the last remaining box office draws (Denzel) plus three major Internet Boyfriends to drive hype around around the young'uns.

Napoleon is the only movie I ever heard a single adult talk about in any capacity since I started working - the hype was very very tangible. Haven’t heard a peep on a single thing next month, but considering it’s mostly kids stuff maybe my anecdotal evidence isn’t the best sample size.

Whenever I got the Napoleon trailer in theater, it had a good response. I also seen more advertising for it than Flower Moon and on top of that, heard more people my age talk about Napoleon than Moon. Anyways, even though tentpoles have been very hit or miss this year and signs of an unhealthy box office are there, the return of adult drama slowly creeping in means there’s hope for a more sustainable theatrical future. Now if we could just get more comedies to do well, I think we could get more healthier variety for theaters and studios because if more mid and small budgeted films do well, a tentpole dying doesn’t fuck over a month.
