Does The Boys in the Boat have previews on Sunday the 24th or is that EA?

I know they all do it but god this is annoying. They are not previews anymore.

I realize this might be a "give them an inch..." scenario, but I'm willing to give folks a pass on Xmas Eve where theaters usually shut down super early.

Kind of amazed at how well Boys in the Boat is doing considering reviews are middling and no one in the movie is a draw (Clooney's directing career is spotty as well), I assumed it would be total DOA. Guess people really want an inspirational sports drama at Christmastime?

Also, Anyone But You had some good reactions come out tonight from some legit people, so it sounds like it might be able to crack a fresh rating at least? Would be nice to see that have good legs even if it starts small.

ferrari has showings on the 24th so that's part of the reason why Christmas Day looks worse

Quick and Dirty Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Sacramento Report [T-4]

930/16554 (5.62% sold) [+60 tickets] 98 showtimes

1.03911x TSS: at T-4                   [5.74m] (adj for ATP differences since 2021)
0.49311x Black Adam: at T-4     [3.75m]
1.50485x Shazam 2 at T-4         [5.12m]
0.20857x AtSV  at T-4                [4.09m]
0.42350x The Flash at T-4         [4.11m]

===

For those morbidly curious:

Thr: +52 tickets

Fri:   +52 tickets

Sat:  +59 tickets

Sun: +60 tickets

Quick and Dirty Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Sacramento Report [T-3]

1086/18705 (5.81% sold) [+156 tickets] 134 showtimes

1.21341x TSS at T-3                       [5.62m] (adj for ATP differences since 2021)
0.50000x Black Adam at T-3        [3.80m]
1.55587x Shazam 2 at T-3            [5.29m]
0.24355x AtSV at T-3                    [4.23m]
0.45006x The Flash at T-3           [4.37m]

1.72930x Blue Beetle at T-3         [5.71m]

====

So before I say anything else, I accidentally punched in the T-3 numbers for The Suicide Squad and Across the Spider-Verse in my comps last night. 🤡

Ooopise.  🤡  🤡  🤡

(the figures in the quoted post have now been corrected  [T-4 TSS: 5.74m | T-4 AtSV: 4.09m])

((I blame the fact that I don't often do Q&D reports for T-4 as I tend to wait 'till T-3 or T-2 and that slipped me up slightly)

So with the corrected comps, not much of a change.  In fact a couple of the comps might be inching up ever so slightly.  Sacto could just be over-performing for a DC flick for once though, so who knows.

I did Q&Ds for Blue Beetle starting at T-2, but since I gave the daily sales pace, I was able to reverse engineer it.  I'll go ahead and keep it for the last couple of reports.

Either way, not collapsing here.  Yet.

1.96x Blue Beetle for $6.5M

Another low double digit day, which at this point isn't great, but not horrible.

I dropped the FNAF comp, as it wasn't helpful anymore, and it's hiding the mild growth against the other two.

I also did a quick count on Xmas day sales yesterday, and Aquaman is running at 75% of Thursday totals. It's worth noting that right now, Migration and Aquaman are the only films for sale on Xmas day. Full schedules sh go up Tuesday night.

A very solid day. Made ground on all comps. At the growth we're seeing, I think getting to the $3M range is doable. If reviews are bad, it could hurt walk ups.

I actually heard a radio ad for this yesterday. I think it's the first piece of marketing I've come across for it. I also think that WB film trio is going to boost sales. I'm guessing it'll be the Tuesday sales that see the biggest benefit as people watch this and the others on the cheapest option to get that deal.

1st local PLF 14 set -  Here's what they have so you can see what's staying and what's going.  In non-surprising news, this is a set where nothing goes big...and somehow foreign gets a foothold in both new entries and returning.  And there is a Monday set, but I'll make that separate b/c it's still being updated - big thing is Color Purple has finally gotten a .5 screen expansion.

NEW

Aquaman - 2 screens (1 PLF/1 not) - no change from presales

Migration - 1 screen - no change from presales

Anyone but You - 1 screen - no change from presales

Iron Claw - 1 screen - new booking

Poor Things - 1 screen - new booking

Salaar - 1.25 screens (1 PLF showing / 1 reg screen) - another foreign movie with more than 1 screen usually says a higher performing one - 1 extra showing from presaales

Dunki - 1.5 screens - .5 extra screens from presales

RETURNING - they kept the top 5

Wonka - 1.5 screens (no change from early presales for the weekend) - .5 PLF/1 reg - shares PLF with Salaar (takes the early shows)

HG - Boss - 1 screen (won the live action war)

Godzilla - 1 screen

Trolls - 1 screen

Boy with the Heron - ,5 screen - early shows - Dunki takes the late ones

GONE - a lot!

Renaissance, Wish (lost the animated fight as expected with Universal saving Trolls), Waitress, Die Hard 35th, The Shift, Napoleon, Animal, Hi Nanna

It is embarrassing to see the market losing so many movies but somehow the aggregate weekend is still below 100m. I can only imagine just how low the occupancy rate across the board.

Despite Wonka's 39m OW, the total weekend gross is still just 80m. I begin to believe that we won't have a single 100m+ weekend in this December.

What is it with Clooneys directorial efforts always being so boring? Not even bad, just boring. Except I guess Leatherheads which I like they're all so surprisingly mediocre.

I get the sense he's always envisioned himself as The Next Great American Filmmaker, even with the successful acting career he's had. Since 2016, not counting his Flash cameo, he's only appeared in two movies (The Midnight Sky - a Netflix feature which he also directed - and Ticket to Paradise).

He said there's a idea/script for an Oceans Fourteen of some kind so seeing him return to that could be fun, if they can get everyone back.
