Great counter argument, thanks for providing convincing evidence that has changed my stance and made me reconsider the possibility of A Wrinkle in Time being a hit

Good. Now that that’s out of the way

This film looks terrible which sucks because I love the first one. There's a reason Del Toro did the fighting at night. Hides the VFX better.

love the first one but that was a real issue for me, I'd rather see worse CGI and have brighter colours during the day, than less noticeable CGI at night. although I will admit the CGI is truly amazing in the first one.

This is an internet legend that refuses to die, even though I t's been refuted by the VFX people themselves -- it was actually more complicated and more work to do those environments at night. Nighttime was a stylistic choice, nothing more.

A Wrinkle in Time I feel hype for, could see it being a nice mid level hit.  family fantasy films tend to get underpredicted here because we’re not the target audience.

You also see that with how people are really underestimating how big Mary Poppins Returns can be.

I disagree about Wrinkel, I am not feeling much hype for it, and think it could go either way, but you are right in that films that are not "geek" films get overlooked here.

Gonna make a killing in China.

It was greenlighted because the original did well in China.  This film always had overseas market as it's main target.

Personally, I lost all interest in the film when I learned Del Toro was only to be marginally involved. No Del Toro Directing, no ticket from me.
