It's obviously not locked, but it's in a strong position now that we know people love it.

I don't know if anyone is saying that. But it certainly is the first real contender to emerge. Plus, we all know how much the Academy loves these type of movies.

I still contend that your Best Picture lock is going to be Fences, especially after the controversy last year.

It only has 5 reviews on RT right now, but 3 are from top critics... and it's at 100% with a 10/10 Average Rating.  Holy crap.

I guess I would say it has a nom locked up for BP. And a nom for BD by the looks of it. But it certainly isn't a lock yet to win either. As we all know, the awards race changes like crazy and this is just the first huge Oscar film thrown down.

worth noting that spotlight got a lot of "pretty good, nothing great" reactions from the venice crowd and then the toronto crowd went nuts for it. these reviews are pretty great though, much better than what spotlight was getting.

Need to wait on reviews, but other contenders likely to be Live By Night, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, The Founder, Silence, Loving, Moonlight and others.
