Funny thing is, last Christmas was a disaster for them too with Mortal Engines and Welcome to Marwen.

Universal really needs to take a hard look at their yearly holiday season slates and strategies. The movies they're putting out at that time are not working, like at all.

TBH they've had a decent year so they can suck up the bad films. I would say they should be ensuring that Wicked which they have in development is in the hands of someone who isn't Tom Hooper because that's one that has huge potential box office wise.

Lmao, what CinemaScore is this thing getting?

From Deadline:

Those few who showed up last night were not impressed at all with the Tom Hooper-directed take on the famed Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, giving it 1 star on PostTrak and a 37% definite recommend. Of those parents and kids who showed up and repped 11% of the audience, parents liked it better at 3 1/2 stars and a 60% definite recommend and kids under 12 really not getting it at 1 1/2 stars

Quote

Surely I’m being too harsh. Perhaps this movie just wasn’t made for me. I mean, I do love Cats—I’ve seen the show four times, three times as an adult, not out of irony but out of genuine affection. But this movie did not bring that same level of joy, and it’s not even one I would recommend for an ironic viewing. Perhaps, then, this is a movie for a new generation of kids who will fall in love with the musical just as I did. As I watched Cats the other night, that was the idea I settled on. Then a young boy sitting two seats over from me sat straight up, turned to his mother, and said “I hate this!” So maybe not.

Those are better scores than Black Christmas last weekend, so a D+ or above?
