We'll know how unhappy WB is if they put out "it underperformed there too" statements like they did with The Suicide Squad and In the Heights.

They only did that for In The Heights, not for Suicide Squad which they said overperformed on HBO Max.

This is shaping up to be another interstellar

This isn't a crack on Dune, but Interstellar is much much much much much more audience friendly than Dune.

I agree but I think he means a movie that seemed posied for universal raves that ended up quite polarizing after it was seen.

So, the HBO Max for this year's movies makes more sense now. Most of WB's slate is baaad. HBO max is allowing them to save face

What is going on in this thread with you lot😂😂

Talk about being completely over the top and hyperbolic. And I’m not even into this film.

This film has…. 23 reviews and an average rating of 8.

The studio so far has not disclosed streaming viewership numbers for its 2021 slate of films, including the DC Cinematic Universe tentpole. However, HBO Max chief Andy Forssell revealed Sunday that Suicide Squad boasted the second-most viewed opening of any film premiering day-and-date on HBO Max. Sources say Mortal Kombat is No. 1, although no one is certain of the viewership tally.

‘Suicide Squad’ Box Office: Movie No Hero With $26.5M Opening – The Hollywood Reporter

That sounds like an admission of "it flopped" given the massive budget differences between the two movies (Godzilla vs. Kong posting huge-for-the-pandemic-era theatrical numbers offset any handwringing over having smaller streaming numbers than Mortal Kombat). We'll see how Dune does in comparison to their expectations.

Will be lucky to make Arrival numbers. I don't see any WB movie doing well this year except maybe Matrix if it receives decent reviews. Suicide Squad is an overrated R rated pretentious movie. Zero story telling. It was all slam bang blood guts, shit and cussing mixed with funny moments. Much better movies have been made in that genre with actual good story telling.

Isn’t “In The Heights” still the best reviewed wide release of the summer? 94%.

How? Fury Road was loved by everyone out the gate, this...not so much (and only the trades have seen it so far, who knows what will happen once it moves beyond the festival circuit).

Fury Road got a B+. It didn’t turn a profit because it cost too much, but the Internet loves it, as do I. I just get a similar vibe, that’s all.

Not sure how you go from second most viewed to "it flopped" when it did better than everything that wasn't Mortal Kombat. Even the Samba numbers back that up - doing better than every other movie they had including GvK and WW84. With ITH, they straight up said no one cared.

You just made that up.

In the link you used they said TSS was the second most watched debut of the year. Samba are guessing 4.8m households in the first 18 days.
