That's exactly what he's saying....

It's not?

He's saying Beast won't drop 50% cause it isn't a polarizing film. Polarizing films coming off of such huge opening drop around 60-70%.

Im a bus driver. I didnt use my box office acumen in my interview to get the job.

But it is useful when trying to predict what a film might end up with when u only have 4 days worth of data to extrapolate with.:qotd:

It's hard to compare Beauty and the Beast's drop of 72% to Zootopia's first Monday drop of 81%. This is coming more at the middle of the month, with more students on break.

First weekdays are never a good indicator for the reason you just described. 2nd weekend is where a movie's BO fate is revealed.

Also, while BatB and Zootopia are family films, BatB has a broader appeal to adults. That could make a difference, and also that could soften a bit 2nd weekend increases.

hell no! he was magnificent. His banter with Ewan/Lumiere was so much fun. Lumiere pranks Cogsworth:"Oh, mastah, you've already retuhned" Cogsworth falls for it. Audience roars with laughter. People ate up those characters.

Sure, he is always magnificent, he never phones it in. I meant that for an actor such as him the part was..less, that's all.

Even if BatB drops like 55% or so that woud not indicate bad WOM or a polarizing reception. Its just that we are dealing with such massive numbers that some kind of drop is inevitable. These grosses are equal to some of the biggest modern blockbusters, no Disney animation or live-action film is in the same league (talking films since 2000) as BatB. That said, if it behaves like a typical family blockbuster and drops more in the 40-48% range it would be mind-blowing. Remember, the original adjusts (including re-releases!) to 392M, an number this film will crush.

LOL Anyone who is not high on the OW fumes of a crappy CGI monstrosity like BATB is a troll? Great moderation skills there, bro. I am gonna laugh so hard at your defense of this POS film when it fails to do 500 m and you all start finding other excuses for it.

You're literally calling BATB a CGI monstrosity in favor of BvS? There is more art in the BATB costumes than in the entirety of BvS.

Bro.

there are rumors that BOM would be integrated into IMDB and they would now make you pay a premium again to access some of the features. I wonder if it could be happening

If they do that then I'll just move to the-numbers.com. Messier but same info.

Screw IMDb.

@baumer Box office acumen...so sad not to have it. :( I bet that is a highly marketable skill that tons of high-paying employers seek out. Anyway, good luck with your job search, Mr. Mod...your skills at predicting the BO for crappy blockbusters on an internet message board makes you special.

Says the guy who voluntarily joined and now posts on a box office themed internet forum?

Logan with a -70% drop. Ouch! Hoping for the best with the other films.

Edit: Can't navigate the-numvers.com right... That drop is just from Sunday to Monday I assume.

There is a significant amount of the population in both Canada and the United States that has Easter Monday off. If you don't believe me then explain why Batman vs Superman had a relatively small drop for a Monday in the middle of March and then also dropped on the Tuesday instead of increasing. The numbers don't lie. It's right there in black and white for you all you have to do is do a little bit of research.

I've lived in 10 different states over my life (though for 2 I wasn't there during an Easter) and have never had an "Easter Monday" off.  The only way I could see this happening is for children/teachers who might have their spring breaks scheduled for the week after Easter Sunday.  Other than that . . . who is getting Easter Monday off?  God knows my college spring breaks always seemed to be in early March.  I can see religious schools automatically taking their Spring Breaks over the week after Easter Sunday and I have seen some schools just take the Friday before Easter and the Monday after for "Easter Break" but those are usually the exception.    I'd be all for making the Monday after Easter a Holiday but . . . it hasn't happened yet.

That being said, Easter 2016 was one of the earliest Easters I can remember (Late March?) so I suspect a lot of Spring Breaks just happened to fall the week after which helped boost the BvS numbers.
