The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Deathly Hallows 2 jumped the equivalent of about 50m over DH1 in today's dollars, but then I believe 3D was a big part of that and I'm not sure how much the effect was.  Episode 3 jumped over Ep2 about 50m (for the 4 day opening for both movies) as well adjusting both up to today's prices, in that case though 3 years had passed. Not apples to apples in either case but the opportunity seems to be there.

Another comparison is Return of the King. It came out one year later and similarly to Endgame, was 20 minutes longer than The Two Towers. That had a 5-day opening 21.5% higher, which just directly applying gets you to ~$312M OW.

RotK is a good comp for this movie overall, as a super long runtime epic conclusion to a globally popular narrative with an extremely well received predecessor just a year earlier. Similar DOM bump would be 753M, similar OS bump 1.74 OS

The factor that does make me want to join the $300M OW train is that, even though Friday presales are huge right now... just like other Marvel movies, Saturday is just off the charts, with 7AM showings already over 50% capacity and afternoon showings selling out left and right. It's clear that it is still the day to see it, even with all this must-see-it-right-away hype. I genuinely think this has a shot at hitting $90M on Saturday.

Yeah, I was just checking the Regal I’m going to next week, and I noticed that Fri/Sat had 3am shows.

I know Thursday’s will go that late because of that upfront demand, but if it trends like this all weekend?  Jesus.

I know apparently Empire 25 is going straight through from Thursday to Sunday, which is fucking insanity.

Empire 25 currently has 84 'almost full' or sold out shows for the weekend. It's going to be a bonkers 4 days for them 😫

I can only imagine that their food supplies/dry good storage area is more like a warehouse. As it stands I'm hoping that by the time i work concessions monday morning we are out of basically everything.

In relevant news 20/53 showings in my area are sold out for Thursday night..... though i think only 2 theaters are at their full schedule. Mind and our sister theater.

Well, there's just so much demand out there for 3D.  Can't blame 'em. really.

I'm sure AMC Empire 25 will probably make the most money on Thursday, but I'm curious what theaters will have the most showtimes. Just perusing some locations I know have 30, AMC Gulf Pointe is currently tipping the scales with 58 showtimes on Thursday alonehttps://www.amctheatres.com/movie-theatres/houston/amc-gulf-pointe-30/showtimes/all/2019-04-25/amc-gulf-pointe-30/all
