HK MTC1 Morning Update

Previews - 53699/251178 802026.61 1610 shows

Friday - 82071/701329 1221953.95 4088 shows

Its pacing nicely. Let us see how things move this evening. Friday sales are moving even faster. It has the showcount to do 300K+ admits at MTC1. Should be suffice for high teens at minimum(minus previews). Previews itself needs huge walkups for sure to hit 5m.

so 20-23 mill probably with previews , very good

Right there with you.  I don't post much.  I just come here to learn as much as I can about the box office and movies as I can.  Plus these people know what they are doing and talking about especially compared to other sites.  Or at least some do, some just act\talk like it.  But it's all useful and entertaining to me for the most part. 🙂

Well that's just it isn't it? I've noticed some of the media outlets on the subject have been dreadfully inaccurate.

Another weekend where I got excited for nothing numbers.

If I may, I think it's just because we box office fanatics are just excited for the box office to be back again. When I saw the business Free Guy did back in August I was ecstatic!

Maybe that's why they're invoking The Revenant? It was cold and bleak and about revenge, and was a huge hit. Of course, it had Leo, maybe he could sell The Last Duel (but maybe not, one of his rare flops was in a Ridley Scott movie).

Could be… but also I wouldn’t be very inclined to watch that movie either, at this point in time.

Just kinda unfortunate overall timing for TLD’s release, not really anything they could do about it.

Speaking as an Old, it looks gloomy and bleak and not really what I’m looking for in casual entertainment right now. And this coming from a formerly-huge Ridley Scott fan (I’ve cooled off in the last few years).

And you haven't even mentioned Damon's horrendous mullet.  :sadno:

This film is aesthetically unappealing on top of having bleak subject matter.  At least The Revenant had breath taking scenery.

There is always another MCU movie opening around the corner for you.

I hope you’re not talking about Halloween.

It could still be headed for the second best opening weekend for a slasher film… of all time. Despite the pandemic, at home release and piracy.

I made the mistake of posting while in the mental equivalent of a K-Hole.

That said, yes, Halloween probably opening to 45m is very impressive....but Tuesday's numbers made it look like it was gonna top Bond.

4:00 PM Salt Lake City update, Sugarhouse Cinemark theater, non-PLF.

Halloween Kills

Previews, three hours before 1st screening: 4 shows, 89/248 35.8%

Friday: 10 shows, 98/604 16.2%

Still plenty of time for walkups, but absent that, HK doesn't see to be breaking out here.

The Last Duel

Previews, two hours before 1st screening: 4 shows, 22/216 10.1%

Friday: 4 shows, 15/248 6%

NTTD comp $418,000

$10M OW would be a roaring comeback at this point.

Coming Attractions

Dune 10/21 preview night 84/212

Ron's Gone 10/21 preview night 4/124

Last Soho 10/28 preview night 3/124

Halloween Kills:

7:00 Dolby: 85/236

7:30: 10/54

8:00: 16/107

8:45: 2/107

9:15: 14/51

9:45 Dolby: 73/236

Total: 200/791

Comps:

97% of AQP2 (4.7M)

182% of Candyman (3.1M)

270% of Old (4.1M)

Dolby is doing the heavy lifting here; standard sales are pretty weak. Out of these three comps, it's performing closest in line with Old (strong Dolby sales, weak standard) compared to Candyman (strong standard, ok Dolby) and AQP (evenly spread between Dolby/IMAX/Standard with capacity restrictions). I'm inclined to go with the 4.1M number, but falling closer to the Candyman comp wouldn't surprise me.

To add onto The Lasf Duel talk, I think it was an AWFUL choice to center the trailer and most of the early TV spots around Jodie Comer. It's great that the movie really focuses on her, but the marketing needed to focus on the Bro-y stars battling it out to the death
