The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Maybe it was a more hardcore property after all ,though to be honest its pace would have definately increased if the reviews were great.Personally call me an idiot if you want am still optimistic ,last week should finally see an incease ,fingers crossed.

Anyway data from yesterday (it differs from where Keyser had it but not significantly):

Eternals MTC2

Thursday:

Showtimes: 1968 (+1)

Seats Sold: 39442/319863 (+4574)

$ Sales: 548459 (+53621)

Friday:

Showtimes: 3720

Seats Sold: 31584/620839 (+4900)

$ Sales: 413952 (+56876)

2 days and a few hours of data. Not as awful as I was thinking at first but still way behind BW. I don't have exact comps for today but Thursday pace around 60% of BW and Friday pace probably 65-70%.

@Menor @keysersoze123 guys when usually  the bump for the final few days increases ? Starts ? In others words if it were to mimic other movies it should start to bump this sun or so ?

Sunday has to be good. If I am not wrong SC did around 5K+ and then increased every day. Eternals has a mountain to climb to hit those levels. Keep fingers crossed that it does recover.

Other thing is would there be a TMobile/Atom ticket deal for Eternals. I dont remember seeing one for MCU movies but this could do with some boost.

As of now, TMobile has not announced one early, nor had ads (which was the gimme for Bond and Addams Family) - so, it's unlikely from TMobile Tuesday deals,  but it could be a Atom only sponsored deal...and those could come any time...

After the confusion last week, I decided to spice up my showtimes report.  After a lot of tinkering, I've found a way to parse out the Dolby shows from the Standard shows and split up IMAX and 3D shows as well.  I've also added a column to indicate the total show count change from the previous weekend.  New releases include preview shows, and as such, 2nd weekend drops will reflect their loss.

Future release show counts

T-1 Week

Last Night in Soho (Wed) - 154 (All Dolby)

Last Night in Soho (Wed-Sun) - 20,460

Antlers - 17,679

My Hero Academia - 14,978

The French Dispatch - 3,716

Mouthful of Air - 427

T-2 Weeks

Eternals (previews) - 9,541 (589 IMAX, 1243 3D, 340 Dolby)

Maybe I have gone overboard with this report, but I get excited with numbers so deal with it.  This week I dove further into the source data and was able to split out shows by format and included a total PLF column.  Change is total show number change from last week (OW includes preview shows and are accounted for in W2 drop).

Future release show counts

T-1 Week

Eternals - 69,532 (10,720 previews)

Spencer - 8,405 (1,377 previews)

T-2 Weeks previews

Clifford - 3,918 (includes 28 shows on 10/30)

T-3 Weeks previews

Ghostbusters - 3,137 (440 IMAX) (Cinemax not listed yet)

Now that I've typed this all up, I also discovered an issue as I was finishing this morning where the AM shows were not being counted due to the a (11:30a) in the time.  I'll run this week's totals again including the morning shows to show how that affects totals for future comparisons.  I'll also use those numbers when calculating drops for next week.

Oh, didn't realize Dune was taking that big of a hit on Dolby. Wonder how much that'll hurt it, though I expect IMAX to continue being the more significant % of Dune's number (maybe even moreso than last weekend).

I thought I was pessimistic when I predicted Eternals but Charlie took it to another level. But the key thing is there is no catalyst at the moment. Current pace will put it well behind BW and SC will start to catch up.

This is behaving closer to Dune/Bond than a Marvel movie at this point. We need @john2000 sacrificed to make a difference.

there is only one movie where i could have consider it
