I posted in the the early Oscar predictions threads in like January that I am hearing great things from great sources about the movie and that it is commercial and a bit similar to Inside Man. It appears that those people are right judging by the reactions. Those same sources stated that Melissa McCarthy is transformative in her Fox Searchlight movie and have compared her to Jamie Foxx in Ray, so watch out for her possibly winning.

I imagine Focus will follow a Wind River pattern on this:

 

Aug 10: 4 theaters

Aug 17: 50-100 theaters

Aug 24: 700-800 theaters

Aug 31: 2,500 theaters

 

I could see it pushing 3k theaters on Labor Day or the following weekend providing it doesn't bomb in rural areas.

liked this a lot. definitely Spike's most commercial movie since inside man. toned his style down compared his last few movies (itsnotasgoodaschi-raqthoughsorry). mostly it's fun but packs a punch when it wants to.
