Another weekend thread, another stupidly early Deadline guess and people are panicking like its a Wednesday thread.

 

I mean, yeah, Shazam doesnt have the best of chances to receive a big jump in this number, but its way too early to determine anything about its gross this weekend. Mary Poppins (negative example) and Us (positive example) should show, that DHD's guesses are not better than mine or yours at this point.

How about to define it as doing good, bad, whatever, after the real numbers are in?

 

Yes in Asia some reactions do not look promising, but there are partly questions about why a certain rating got/was given by whom. Again, too early to be sure.

Also: expectations...

in dom people were prepared the movie is being about a 14y old character.

Maybe in Asia people were less prepared and expected a more adult SH? People seem to react often over the top, if expectations are not fulfilled, even if a movie is great.

How often did we hear about people disliking a certain movie per the first viewing, but even loving it during their 2nd viewing? Some of the audience seem to need time to adjust.

$4-5M is about where I expected the previews for Shazam to be given 1) $3M was already eaten up and 2) How it was doing on Fandango plus at my theater. The friday number will tell us how it’s doing as there aren’t really any comps for a movie that had 4PM previews and a fan event that ate up so much of demand for it. 

 

Anyways the movie is great and I hope it makes as much money as it can. Even if it doesn’t find an audience at the box office, I’m sure it’s gonna be a classic.

I didn’t get a chance to check the other showtimes cause I ended up watching it last night but its walk ups weren’t substantial or anything  But like @TalismanRing said I need to be more considerate to people who walk slowly. Gonna be a terrible doctor if I don’t.
