I feel like Good Boys could do better than that. I can see it do Blockers numbers honestly (even has the same production team behind).

This could turn into an interesting weekend to follow simply because multiple movies could end up very close in gross.

Given TLK and H&S reportedly did 4.2 and 4.0 on Thur and the preview numbers for Dora and SS, we could have 4 films in the low 20's for the weekend (probably won't happen but not out of the realm of possibility).

The numbers for some of the holdovers this weekend could be pretty bad. The movies outside the top 5 are almost all taking 50%+ theater losses and FFH and TS4 are both taking over 20%.

Scary Stories is probably frontloaded but that's a big number regardless. GDT's power!

LOL, Guillermo del Toro has never equated to good box office.

Quote

Despite the onslaught of five wide releases, Universal’s Hobbs & Shaw will continue to have No. 1 bragging rights in weekend 2 with $24.8M, but down 59% for a 10-day by Sunday of $107.9M.

Today the Dwayne Johnson-Jason Statham pic is expected to settle for second place with $7M to CBS Films/eOne/Lionsgate’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark which will see $8.5M-$9M today (including last night’s $2.33M) for a 2nd place take of $21.3M.

Disney’s Lion King will rank 3rd with $20M in weekend 4, -48% for a running total of $473M by Sunday.

Paramount/MRC/Walden Media’s Dora and the Lost City of Gold will see $6M today estimated, including last night’s $1.25M, for an anticipated $16M debut. Remember, it’s a kid’s movie, so tomorrow’s matinees is this pic’s best friend.

Sony/Bona’s Quentin Tarantino movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is 5th with a 3rd weekend of $10M, -50% and a running total of $98.7M.

Everything else is not looking so hot: Disney/Fox’s The Art of Racing in the Rain ($3.1M, $8.5M), New Line’s The Kitchen ($2M, $5.7M) and Bleecker Street’s Brian Banks ($650K Friday with $100K from previews, $1.85M opening).

Yeah, I'm not sure this weekend's race is yet done...Scary Stories could play very well tonight and late night...and H&S may not...

Goes to show, though...don't open FIVE premier concepts on the SAME DANG WEEKEND!  There could only be winners and losers, and mostly losers...although it's good to see one definite break out, and Dora looking like it will at least make its budget back DOM...

Holy crap. 16 million that would be horrific. Again making a toddler movie for teenagers with a 18 year old acting as Dora was crazy

I think it will likely go higher with a strong Saturday but it won't touch 20M imo.

The Shape of Water

Budget $20 million[2]
Box office $195.2 million[3]

Pan's Labyrinth

Budget $19 million[3]
Box office $83.3 million[3]

You are kidding. Both movies had oscar buzz. Even Mama was helped by oscar because Jessica Chastain was coming from Zero Dark Thirty. No oscar buzz, no hit. Well, Scary Stories doesn't have oscar buzz, but I really really hope it isn't another disappointing bop of him.
