The most important question is, how is Lamb doing?

A24's Lamb Is a Twisted Family Movie Joy - Den of Geek

I feel as if A24's business model is to create movies with a certain unique (often faux-bizzare) gimmick or visual flair chosen so that the trailers go viral, and then using that "uniqueness" to mask how tedious the movie actually is.

I'm guessing that Cannes movie where the girl has sex with a car is also one of theirs. They need to be stopped.

Nah, the car sex movie is by Neon. They're basically the studio for Film Twitter hipsters who think A24 is too mainstream.

To me, I just never felt the same quite of beloved-ness. He was liked, for sure, but I guess it felt like Craig really dedicated a lot to the role and pushed Bond to heights never seen internationally.

Internationally, the box office exploded in the mid 2000s then again with the addition of China.    More significantly Craig's era built on  the renewed popularity built with Brosnan's Bond whereas Brosnan's was built on a decade of diminishing returns.

Brosnan revived Bond with Goldeneye (it made 2.8x what LTK made) and every Brosnan Bond film in the U.S. after had more admissions than GE with DAD being the highest.  There was no fall off.   Craig had the higher peak with Skyfall but domestically it looks like all his other Bond will finish under CR.

Craig's been Bond though far longer. 5 films released over 15 years v Brosnan's 4 over 7.  That length may have embedded him more in the public consciousness but the long time between Bonds probably also killed some of his momentum in the U.S.

Good god christ there's two of them.

Visually interesting nonsense movies must be big right now.

I thought Neon distribute foreign awards stuff like Parasite, Portrait of Lady on Fire, etc

They do. They also put out stuff like I, Tonya, Vox Lux, Beach Bum, Palm Springs, Pig, and Spencer, among others.

Still hilarious how Neon took a dump on A24 for getting in the merchandise business (yes, those $50 A24 candles are really a thing, look 'em up). Even your favorite indie studios saving cinema from the blockbuster-run business of today are at war with each other.

Bond matinees at the theater I track in Salt Lake looking strong. Evening also looking brisk with the four showings between 6:00 and 9:00 all guaranteed to be sellouts (the 7:00 PM in the largest auditorium is already completely sold) and the later ones likely to come close to that. For comparison's sake, here's what it looks like vs Venom 2nd Friday as of 11:30 A.M.

Bond tix sold

matinees 215

evening 302

Total 517

Venom tix sold

matinees 15

evening 37

Total 52

Well, if you look at all the Bonds since 2000, the obvious exception to the norm was Skyfall.  It was the only Bond to hit 300 domestic and a billion WW.  Maybe this one is going to fall more in line with the other Bond's in the last 20 years.  The average domestic gross was about 170 million.  And Bond does aim for an older demo and I don't think people my age have all decided to come back to the theatre yet.  Maybe this does 60 OW and 165 domestic, which would be in line with the other Bonds post 2000, not named Skyfall.

1 Skyfall $304,360,277 3,526 $88,364,714 3,505 Nov 9, 2012 Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)
2 Spectre $200,074,609 3,929 $70,403,148 3,929 Nov 6, 2015 Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)
3 Quantum of Solace $168,368,427 3,501 $67,528,882 3,451 Nov 14, 2008 Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)
4 Casino Royale $167,445,960 3,443 $40,833,156 3,434 Nov 17, 2006 Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)
5 Die Another Day $160,942,139 3,377 $47,072,040 3,314 Nov 22, 2002 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)

FWIW, Bond is definitely just doing better in some markets than others.

Take my theater for example. Prime demo, urban area, lots of older people. And Bond already has more tickets sold for opening Friday (at 11 AM) than Black Widow had by the end of the day.

Why is everyone so negative about $6.3m previews? That's 20% higher than Spectre... ($5.2m previews) which opened to 70m... ?

Probably because this is for Wednesday and Thursday previews.

MTC2 is looking like it might be that, but in the other direction, with Bond struggling to pass BW's 11 AM PT number. Bond in Canada seems to perform like the UK.

They also just got Pleasure from A24 who wanted to release an edited R rated cut, and uh, the director had something to say:
