At this point, pretty sure the overhyped, uncertain rumors about a truckload of cameos really hurt this film. The fact that the "Superior iron man who would be played by Tom Cruise" rumor got trending on Twitter for a while when the trailer got released was just ridiculous and out of nowhere. Nevertheless, I still think DS2 has a  great jump if you compare it to DS1, thanks to how Marvel has kept shoehorning Strange in almost every MCU film since 2016, which makes him become familiar to the general audience. I have already mentioned this in the DS2 thread but Doctor Strange himself is a lackluster character, before DS2, in the eyes of a lot of young MCU fans he's just a grumpy, unfriendly uncle.
Here on Reddit people are even discussing why Wong becomes so popular lately
https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/uoat00/why_is_wong_so_popular/
(In short, the conclusion, is Wong had a down-to-earth personality that made young people feel comfortable with, while Strange had a gigantic ego.)

On Twitter, people are more engaging with Theron's declaration post that she just joined MCU through a small cameo in DS2
(the post gained nearly 420k likes, which is very impressive). It's a sad but undeniable fact that they are more interested to see other side characters in Strange's film but not Strange himself. Perhaps this might change in the future with how Strange's character arc and character traits have panned out in this film.

I think he works best in a supporting role too. He's a good character but maybe should be used more like Ruffalo's Hulk.

Lost City should easily make it past 100M without a fudge. If it doesn't get there next weekend, Top Gun doubles will (unless Paramount wants more money for Sonic in an attempt at 200M). Pretty great late legs considering the iffy first couple drops and being on Paramount+ now.

Goalposts for EEAAO should now be 60M. Howard Ratner is toast in a few days :ohmygod:

It is still an easy billion even if it don't reach billie due to external factors.

Even with $380M in USA & how much it do in current markets i.e. $570-590M. It is missing $20M in Middle East, $30M in Russia & $5M in Ukraine.

Also due to Russia war, exchange rates are worst in long time, making it lose another $40M or so.

Even without involving China the real value is $1050-1075M.

China would likely be around $300M if it was released.

Hence easy billion.

Eh only EndGame and infinity war cross more than $300m in China.Half of cinema have been closed due to covid.even if ds2 get an  release in China,$50m-60m is more realistic.

Strange:

May 13: 58.7M (22.5M weekdays, 312.1M Total)

May 20: 29.8M (12.2M weekdays, 354.1M Total)

May 27: 17M (8.9M weekdays, 380M Total)

June 3: 8.9M (5.3M weekdays, 394.2M Total)

June 10: 3.5M (2.2M weekdays, 399.9M Total)

June 17: 2.5M (1.5M weekdays, 403.9M Total)

June 24: 1.6M (900k weekdays, 406.4M Total)

Total: 410M (2.19x)

Losing Dolby and other PLFs to Downton could hurt it much more than 50% next weekend given changing audience habits post-pandemic. June 3 will probably make or break 400M since Watcher is the only wide release and Top Gun will be the JW sellout alternative by that point. I think it'll reach that mark barring ugly drops the next two weeks.

One thing I’m tired of is the The Batman comparisons.

Batman was a better received film overall of course it was going to have better legs. Doctor Strange is a disappointment, what were we expecting here?

Dr Strange 2 might not be a horror movie, but its legs are sure playing like a horror one.

To be fair, only two horror films in the last full year have had bigger drops than Doctor Strange 2 is about to have: Halloween Kills and Studio 666.

IMO, Disney+ is the biggest drawback for Lightyear above all else. Even if the pandemic never happened and every Pixar movie came out in theaters, I feel that a lot of families now treat Disney's animated movies as something to wait on. Why pay money for it now when it'll be on Disney+ for free in a month and a half? Maybe even less than that. It's not like the MCU where you have to see it before you're spoiled. Encanto barely made a dent in theaters, yet exploded on streaming a month later. That's a sign. Still, Lightyear should still do like 250M, which at least will put it ahead of most of the future Disney animated projects.

The thing with Lightyear is that I think it will attrack an older audience more than a regular Disney animation thanks to nostalgia.

The thing with Lightyear is that I think it will attrack an older audience more than a regular Disney animation thanks to nostalgia.

Agreed. Which is why I’m saying it will do 250M

FYI - On Rotten Tomatoes, Top Critics have now gone rotten today, so there will never be a certified fresh label returning for Dr. Strange...it had 1 hour total to enjoy the label last week, I think...

Don't think it matters what Top Critics say for "certified fresh" I think the problem was that the % on there is rounded and when it was 75 it was actually 74 point something. So it wasn't actually 75 which is why they took it away.

Huh? Does top critic score have anything to do with certification?

1 Billion is still more likely than not imo, but its a little bit more uncertain for Doctor Strange 2 now. It might become the first ever CBM in the 900 Millions if its later legs arent that good.
