I think studios want the best possible opening always because legs are not easy to come by. With higher ticket prices and good reviews, around Gravity and The  Martian opening weekend numbers should be happening.

That's a fantastic tracking number. With great reviews, it will certainly make more than $150 million domestic.

The weight of expectations are considerably higher than any of Villenueve's previous films. It will be impossible for reviewers to not draw comparisons to the original and how the film follows it.

seems it will be restricted to WB/US peeps only because Sony aren't showing this to anyone outside the States ahead of release, maybe just until release week. All the press junkets Sony are putting on only showing 30 mins of footage, like the SW/R1 junkets

Is there going to be a European premiere? I assume with the BFI Film Festival, it'll be a week earlier. I know Gosling and Ford are the Graham Norton Show on the 28th September.

The buzz is really low for this one. It needs extremely good reviews. If reviews are mixed it won't open to $40m but around $25m

On the other hand if reviews are excellent it may toy with $50m OW. Hoping for the best

The running time is an issue.  For art's sake, I'm glad they're being allowed to essentially let the film breathe...but it's probably going to hurt box office prospects, yes.

Kinda weird this didn't play at Toronto, has no buzz about quality,  and doesn't  have any reactions or reviews in sight. But who knows.

Titanic obviously. It wouldn't need a desperate re-release to make it to the 2 billion mark if it was just 30 minutes shorter.
