Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves | March 31, 2023 | Paramount | Amazon Prime advance screenings March 19 @ 2 PM

Surprisingly a fun film. Almost like a fantasy GOTG. But it does a good job of using D&D for jokes without losing it's main audience. And all the Forgotten Realms references.

Spoiler

Also the cameos from the old D&D cartoon show warmed my cold heart

movie will still flop with 300m , even if outdoes expectations , Paramount rebooted Terminator Genisys after 440m worldwide with similar budget , which was idiotic, but maybe was Skydance anyways

surely the calculation is a bit different when it comes to poorly received movies, was obvious there was no way they were getting anyone back for the sequels

One thing for sure: you can't blame Paramount for not trying. It's just that these type of sword-and-sandal movies are dated, not something people get hyped for.

People love serious fantasy like LOTR and GOT. There's a limited market for a MCU jokey style fantasy movie. Paramount and WOTC should have adapted the Dragonlance books instead cause they have all the potential to be as big as LOTR.

The failure of this movie should be a big warning to Nintendo and Universal when they make that Zelda movie that either they go LOTR levels epic or they should go home. They should NOT be giving the movie to Illumination.

One of the best movies I've seen in a while. Chris Pine was a great lead with really good comedic timing, and the supporting cast was really good too. I have nothing to complain about.

I went to see it in the morning in IMAX, and there were probably just 30 people, but they seemed to have fun.

Is it basically Guardians of the Galaxy? Absolutely! But when it works this well, I’m not complaining.

It’s got just enough heart, a boatload of laugh out loud gags, and a cast that’s absolutely game for all of it.

There’s a generous helping of practical effects (so many delicious creatures) and location shooting in this film, at least as much as you can get out of a blockbuster of this ilk.

You do have to put up with the usual mushy CGI but the ratio is so much better here.

The action was also well choreographed and shot (and that’s coming off the back of John Wick 4). Some lovely long takes.

Anyone who’s seen Game Night knows how slick, fun and playful these directors are, they truly elevate this film and made it better than it has any right to be.

Everything about it was such a delightful surprise.

It's kinda sad you have to beg people to watch a good movie and then they complain Hollywood doesn't make good movies anymore and always blame marketing when a good movie flops, connecting with audiences without huge IP looks even more like uphill battle these days.

Eh, the biggest bomb 2023 until now is a DC movie and Dungeon and Dragons isnt some weird nerdthing anymore, its easily one of the bigger IP movie.

Not really, D&D is a niche stuff, it's not huge movie IP, otherwise it would've done much better with its reception and Paramount faith in it.

Its niche compared to marvel, nintendo or DC, but not to the most other movies coming out, like Dungeons and Dragons franchise is a lot bigger than Avatar the franchise (was).

Yeah, but b/c this has the highest budget of the year so far (save Ant Man 3), if it doesn't beat Shazam 2 by a decent margin DOM and WW, it will (unfortunately) take its place as the biggest flop of 2023 so far.  Here's hoping the last 2 Spring Break weeks can finally push out some under 25s to support it...
