James Cameron has been working on an underwater sequel to Avatar, developing entirely new visual effects technology for the film, but James Wan and Aquaman are about to beat him to the punch, stealing Avatar 2's groundbreaking glory.

Hate to sound like one of the Cameronites

 

But Aquaman isn’t beating Cameron to any sort of punch based off that trailer.  Underwater sequences and such have happened before, but they’ve never been done well.  At best, Aquaman’s effects in the trailer are passable at points and utterly ridiculous looking at others (especially those underwater shots, jeez)

 

Idk how well Cameron will end up pulling off the underwater, but I’d bet a good chunk of money that whatever he pulls off will look miles better than whatever underwater effects we just saw in the Aquaman trailer.

Of course, it will. Cameron has been an underwater nuts all his life and has a deeper knowledge about hydraulics and submarine ecosystem to make it look right on screen since he directed Abyss which is one of the best non-documentary movie set underwater. So he already faced all the challenges and traps that Wan went right through and seems to have a hard time nailing. Cameron's eye has an expertise and specific experience in that domain that will make all the difference visually.

 

It seems Wan took a lot of short cuts because it's too damn hard to film real actors and set up whole sequences underwater for a cinematographer, it shows in the footage so far. (Jarring editing between full CG sequences and actors painfully composited on a green screen).

At first I was happy she was suspended for six months so that we didnt have to see her trolling half the threads on the forums. But then I was sad that we didnt get to see her completely meltdown on the implosion of DC with JL and utter Marvel dominance with back to back BP and IW.
