Disney really underestimated what they had with Encanto. Pre-pandemic/Disney+, this would have been Moana-sized at least I feel. Movies that have soundtracks that trend for weeks usually develop stellar legs, especially over the holiday frame.

Billboard charts just came out. 

 

The soundtrack album reached #1 surpassing Adele.

 

The song We Don't Talk About Bruno reached #5 without radio support.

 

Waiting the Nielsen charts for the movie itself to see how big it will be, but sadly this movie obviously is a smash hit because of streaming, reaching things that doesn't happen for a month on theaters.

This was a great movie, one of the best animated movie of recent time. Surface Pressure (especially the lyrics) and We dont talk about Bruno are excellent songs. I also really really liked the sweet "Two Oruguitas" song as well. It doesnt have much humour nor does it have a villain but it doesnt matter, the movie doesnt need it. It's great without those things.

 

The globe is well deserved and I hope it wins the Oscar too!

This is turning into a streaming juggernaut. Would be cool if Disney did one little theater push to get it past $100 million. The Oscar is most definitely in the bag.

It's really wild how this has become a full-blown sensation ever since it became available on streaming a month after it came out in theaters. Definitely feels like evidence that it would have become a mini-Frozen, or at least matched Moana's box office performance, in normal times.
