Probably not a movie worth tracking so far from release. may be week out will be a good time start tracking this. But this is looking a huge under performer. I dont know why disney did not wait until next spring or summer to release this.

Very good day as expected. Exceeded final count of IT2 at Empire 25 already. At AMC and all other sites 5 2d shows are listed as sellouts. It happened rather suddenly and so I want to hold off before accounting for them(will do on wed if it still there). That would add almost another 1000 tickets sold at Empire !!!!! Tracked few more AMC theaters at NYC area and overall number almost 10K in just that region. That is close to 200K in preview sales from 22 theaters in that area. I am confident its breaking out big.

Query:  Are you doing this off of AMC's website?  And if so, are they still following that bullshit practice of removing sold out shows from their website entirely (as opposed to greying it out).

 

Could be a problem going forward for mega hits.  Probably already thought of this, but I thought I should mention it all the same.

Thanks. I was wondering the same for Empire 25 which had listed 5 sold out shows and then removed them all together !!!!. So this data should be taken in context that we will not have too many sellouts unless its a Endgame level hype. I think nothing beats doing this manually but its lots of work and so this is the best effort data which gives some kind of macro perspective.

 

I wonder what happens when customerscancel their tickets and so how would that work for the theater. Would they relist the show back?

Don't have any AMCs nearby me, so I can't answer that.  Don't even know how a customer could cancel their ticket in such an occasion except for going to the theater directly. Maybe there's a way to still view your seats via your email?  

 

Anyway, presumably AMC might wait for a certain amounts of refunds (say five or ten tickets??) before going through the hassle of re-listing.  But, like I said, having no direct experience with AMC (either buying or tracking), I couldn't tell ya.

The one very real danger we might have with Joker is that there does seem to be something of a regional split here.  Philly on one extreme, Denver on another to pick two examples.

 

On the other hand, there might be very good reasons for Denver to underperform for this specific movie, so perhaps this is a unique-ish case where Denver isn't the greatest of comps for the nation as a whole.

i think legs wise IT1 (2017) would be a good comp. that didn't have unusual legs or reception (good-very good maybe but not say like Deadpool1, another R-rated breakout, albeit of a different mood). also the calendar matches (unlike Deadpool1 again which had inflated Sun messing up legs comparison)

2.6x is very good for a horror movie though. IT 1 performed more like a superhero film.

So yeah without the old Fandango charts what's left is all over the place.   Highest (TLK) has gone down though while lowest (AEG) has gone up

 

Of these, AEG & X:DP  are the best comps.  AEG with all it's sellouts and nearsellouts didn't have much room for any walkups so that bottom is not likely.  Unless numbers flat line tomorrow I don't see this missing $10m in previews even if NYC is over indexing.
