is there a thread where you list the first 100-500 movies you saw as a child?  I love the break in my list where it turned to horror movies, but I lost the list.

I think mine was ...

1) Oliver and Company

2) Land Before Time

3) Fantasia

4) Little Mermaid

5) All Dogs Go to Heaven

Just finished Roma. It needs to sit with me for a bit before I form a definitive opinion. The movie is a technical masterpiece with some incredible direction, cinematography, and sound. The story had its ups and downs pacing wise, but I wouldn’t say I was ever bored. Overall it’s proooobably in my top 20 of the year at the moment.

Goddamn didn’t expect to be this bored by Roma. It’s one those very, very slow paced indies that spend too many seconds on people staring stuff and avoid directorial flourishes like it’s the plague. Not my thing, at all.

Oh Goffe honey.

Couldn't finish Roma 's

Spoiler

Trailer

Movie looks like a parody of the "arty fartsy" film.

And I admire Gravity and Children of Men as much as anyone else but no thanks.

Hope it will win all the Oscars tho, just for the lol.

I was going to do Roma tonight (I even kinda cheated and watched the first 7-ish minutes during some down time at work), but some stuff came up and I ended up watching La La Land again with family. In case you couldn't tell from my avatar, I still love it to pieces.

But holy hot damn did those 7-ish minutes of Roma I watched on my laptop look gorgeous. A TV is no substitute for the theatrical experience, but I'm looking forward to seeing it on something bigger than my laptop tomorrow.

The fetishization from cinephalia for black and white movies always deeply amused me.

It s in black and white so automatically  it is

"ooohhhh, aaaahhhh, so much beautiful beauty !!!"

"gorgeous cinematography !"

Green Book can’t be my top pick for root against this movie at the Oscars anymore because Bohemian Rhapsody is turning into a legit contender...

I'm still really surprised at just how much Bohemian Rhapsody has taken off on the awards circuit so far. Rami Malek I get - he went a long way toward rescuing that movie for me and I understand the Best Actor hype even if he's probably going to miss the cutoff on my personal ballot. But the film as a whole? Bleh. I didn't hate it (again: see that Malek performance), but it's a far cry from best of the year plaudits in my book.

Not sure it is automatic,, the high percentage of ood budget black&white that get acclaimed for their look is probably in good part explained by the fact that if you achieve to get a black and white movie greenlight (specially shoot natively in B&W) you must be someone really good with a really good project.

No one was going on about how so much beautiful Kevin Smith Clerks was like they did for Schindler list.

It's literally nothing but directorial flourishes. Even moreso than something like children of men Cuaron is just showing off the entire goddamn time. Maybe you think that means something different because otherwise that complaint is nonsensical.

Cash is dying here. That’s 4 ATM’s gone from this shopping centre that were here earlier this year.

Frankly working at a bank it amuses me when I see late night withdrawals (like 1am) at atms from a clients history.

My assumption is they are ...

1. Have a legit Emergency

2. Going to a Strip Club

3. Visiting a Hooker

4. Buying Drugs.

Coming home from work (that time of day or even later is for me typical for in average once a week) and need cash to buy something at a specialised hand-craft/trade shop (often only cash is possible in such kind of stores), a maybe buy from a garage sale the next/same day, tools from someone who moves/sells things from a late relative, give tips to a crew (the next/same day)... drive to pick up something bought per ebay (too heavy to send) and pay there in such a situation usually in cash

only examples out of my RL the last couple of years
