Apart from Best Pic, have read the online world is disappointed about Original Screenplay going to GB and not The Favourite. Any views on that from those who have watched both the films?

The Favourite should have won. Movie had most of the funniest lines I heard all year.

Um, what? Green Book is despised, especially on Black Twitter. Not only that but The Los Angeles Times has published an article denouncing the film as the worst winner since Crash.

And The New Yorker has an article today lamenting that Free Solo won because it wasn't political.

The Favourite and Roma were pretty clearly the top two films of the year, but Green Book was no worse (and probably better) than Black Panther or any of the other nominees.

Unlike Crash at least it has an A+ cinemascore and wasn't going up against really strong competition like Crash was. The "increased rage" is only a perception, because social media amplifies it, let's see if we're still talking about Green Book well over a decade later with the same intensity. I've seen BlackKkKlansmen and it was not Best Picture Winner material IMO, the bad guy caricatures in BlackKkKlansmen were cartoonish, although it did have some memorable scenes, a very likeable lead, and was a fun watch.

Early overnight ratings: 2019 Oscars are up slightly over last year. A little birdie tells me that the 9 highest-rated markets are all in blue states. The 9 lowest-rated are all in red states.

I liked Black Panther but it must have been a rather weak year for it to win Production Design. Wakanda wouldn't have felt out of place in a Star Wars prequel.

and how's that a bad thing? PT was imaginative and had amazing world building. Want dull and stale, look no further from ST, especially The Force Recycles.

Also this was the first year in 4 years where every Best Picture nominee took home at least won award. Last year saw 7/9 nominees win something (Lady Bird and The Post went home empty-handed), the year before 6/9 (Hidden Figures, Lion, and Hell or High Water won nothing), and the year before that 6/8 (Brooklyn and The Martian picked up nada). They've been doing a good job spreading the love since the expansion.

The Favourite is easily the better written screenplay, there's just nothing that stands out in Green Book that would make it deserving of a win.

idk I thought the scene in the rain when the doc got out of the car was pr amazing, among other scenes.

Anthony McCarten is literally a best actor whisperer at this point. I guess we should pencil in The Pope as our winner next year.

Green Book's win is going to age very poorly. Pretty much every film in the line up except Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody will be better remembered. Its has the lowest metacritic score of any Best Picture winner since Crash (both have 69!).

Roma was the most boring among the best picture nominees no matter how much artsy and classic film making have gone into it. Glad that Green Book won. Looks like it have pissed off many people. But don't think it will go Crash way. It does seem to be one of the crowd pleasing/favorites among the nominated movies (after BP, BR, ASIB)

Olivia winning was a joke. She shouldn't have been even nominated as leading actress. Her role was supporting and  should have been fine with that.
