I feel like Strange (and to a degree Thor) are hollow characters. With RDJ you got this larger than life character, but throughout the series he deals with very real, down-to-earth problems. Strange basically left his old life and struggles with nothing but the mission at hand. It would have been nice to have a smaller scale film, where he struggles with wanting to go back to being a doctor, missing his old life, friends, colleagues, etc. With Thor, dude can lose his home planet and he's quipping jokes in the next scene. Loki had far more depth than Thor ever will.

Disney turned all their marketing material into a game of "Where's Waldo" for black characters. And apparently that means people can't criticize crappy writing. Disney is the company that loudly and proudly stood behind the 'Free Tibet' movement, then realized money is actually way better than Tibet, so the brought in Henry Kissinger to negotiate their return to China, lol.

To think the hardcore 'TLJ haters' are more bigoted than Disney is laughable.

That's all Dr. Strange talks about, missing his ex.

And what are you talking about "Where's Waldo with black people"? People attacked the bad writing of The Rise of Skywalker. That's different from attacking and hyperfocusing on the "feminist and liberal agenda" in The Last Jedi as many influencers did.

And plenty of corporations cater to China. It doesn't make them more bigoted than right wing trolls who want to cancel Disney for inclusion.

the star wars backlash was just as big during the prequels, just the internet was not as big , spreading hate from everywhere

The prequels had the strongest movie last and the sequel trilogy had the weakest movie last.

That makes a big difference on how the trilogies impacted the fandom.

It's a dig at Disney over the allegations they shrink/hide black characters in marketing material in China.

Marvel's strongest and most undeniable asset throughout has been QUALITY. They had virtually no "bad" films and maybe 3-4 "meh" films (IRON MAN 2 & 3, The Dark World, Dultron) from Iron Man to Endgame. The run of CIVIL WAR > GOTG 2 >RAGNAROK > BLACK PANTHER > INFINITY WAR > ENDGAME was all time insane sprint quality wise. History says Marvel should have gone off track somewhere between 2008 and 2019, but it never really happened. That run is not only the most incredible achievement in film financial history, it will probably ALWAYS be that way.

In 2006, if you had told - anyone on Earth - that in 10 years, Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man and Chris Evans Captain America would be immortal cinematic legends, that would have been met with profound laughter. Downey was in a position more akin to current Lindsay Lohan than Hollywood A-lister while Evans was a D-list young actor who was totally overshadowed by Josh Hartnett, Heath Ledger, and Ashton Kutcher in the early 2000s.

It's hard to fully describe how impressive Marvel's 2008-2019 run was quality wise, and it created an otherworldly amount of good will among audiences.

It's impressive how you manage to bring up Josh Hartnett so many times.

The Rise of Skywalker was fucking horrible.  Easily the worst and most damaging movie in the franchise.  ZERO redeeming qualities.

Palpatine scenes were good though (especially that bass drop lightning scene), even though the inclusion of Palpatine was dumb.

Also Babu Frik!

But yeah unlike TLJ which at least had some cool moments this had nothing which would awe you. Even the arrival of Lando and all those ships which should have been an awe inspiring moment felt somewhat flat.

This, 1000x.  It took 2 C+/C- prequels that didn't want to talk to each other (yes, those at least had huge lovers of both) and made sure the entire trilogy would never hang together and make sense, while actually being a truly individually awful movie (unlike the 1st 2).

It's why the trilogy overall is an F...

In Canada we have three companies that have a monopoly on telecommunications. Bell, Rogers and telus.

This morning the entire Roger's network is down from coast to coast which affects everything from cell phone service to internet to debit purchases credit card purchases and so on. I'm only mentioning this here because if this doesn't get rectified sometime today, movie affected slightly.

There's a ton of companies in this country that use Rogers for their debit purchases and we Canadians love our debit cards. Just something to be aware of.

If this overpreforms, the detractors are likely gonna eat hammer 😛

Nah, we'll just have foreseen the awful legs, and miscalculated when the overall box office was gonna show:)...

Now, if this legs over Strange, even if just DOM, then yeah, crow will be eaten:)...

PS - On Tuesday, after seeing it, I did say Minions 2 over Thor 4 for full BO, so I'll even eat crow if that doesn't happen:)...

My audience reception was pretty muted last night. There were a few consistent chuckles but no applause. Reminds me a bit of when I saw Black Widow on opening night last year. Audience score is currently 85%...

CinemaScore is gonna be interesting.

This is the second worst reviewd Thor movie ( besides Dark World ). Dark World got A- CinemaScore, while Thor 1 got a B+

Dr Strange got a 85% Audience Score on RT and it got a B+ CinemaScore

Thor Love and Thunder also has a 85% Audience Score on RT, but that's based on 500 reviews, while Dr Strange 2 has more than 10.000 audience reviews.

So, CinemaScore is gonna be either A- or B+

God I hate how BOM has the weekend record charts fucked up due to limited releases now.

But if TGM manages $16-17m this weekend that will put it third for top 7th weekend ever (behind Avatar/Titanic) ahead of Easter-boosted Passion of the Christ.
