No Time To Die | October 8 2021 | 82% on RT | RIP Sean Connery

Spectre in a nutshell: Bond hunts for the mysterious guy he captured at the end of CR (who then escaped in QoS) and ends up getting with his daughter. It is also revealed that Christopher Waltz is Blofeld, head of the Spectre terrorist group, whose family briefly took a young Bond in. This made Blofeld jealous and, er, he became a criminal mastermind. Eventually he's captured.

It's a shame this movie will apparently stick with serialization but I can't imagine needing to know much else.

NO Time To Die is more and more of personal bond movie than what audience expect from a bond movie

Story is wafer thin and screenplay is painfully slow , runs more on interconnection of characters & melodrama with limited action , even things at stakes seems silly & uninteresting , only people who are etched into bond movies can connect with it.

Though limited , action sequences are extremely well composed but not thrilling and no where to bond level.

Performances are top notch , but despite the run time all main characters (Female leads , Villains) are totally under utilised.

Cinematography , lighting is stunning but didn't have many wide or long shots needed for a Bond Film to take the feel of gorgeous locations and impressive ART WORK.

Ending is silly , rushed , unnecessary and forceful , doesn't get the intended emotion or output it wants , again only people who are etched more into Bond only may connect.

How I felt right after first viewing

Casino Royale 4.5/5 G.O.A.T

Skyfall 3.25/5 Good

No Time to Die 2.75/5 Strictly Average

Spectre 2.5/5 Below average

Quantum of Solace 2/5 Flop

Totally agree with almost everything. They really fucked up the Craig era big time with this one. Horrible villan(s) and where is all the cool action that comes with such a long expensive movie??

As a huge JB fan this really frustrates me.

Did i really wait this long for this???

Bond will endure for as long as cinema is relevant. Mission Impossible even though I think it's on form the best franchise at the moment quality wise will live and die by Tom Cruise alone.

That is in fact true. Hopefully Europe wake up to it and the franchise end with a billie.

Europe numbers for M:I are sad.

Couldn’t disagree with the opinions above more. Pacing worked great for me. Action was as good as in any of the other Craig movies, but with real major stakes. As for the ending….just worked hook, line and sinker for me.

it’s all about opinions though.

I had more of an emotional reaction to this than the finale of certain other major franchises in recent years. Others may not, and that’s cool.

I'd rather not have to watch Spectre before NTTD but I'm guessing it's important

Normally I am a big advocate for any single movie in a series working on its own -- yes, you shouldn't have to see anything else in order for one singular entry to "work."  But I just have to ask...what do you have so against it at this point?  I wrote 5000 words about it after coming out of Spectre some years back, so it has some significant substance in its filmmaking within the whole Bond ouvre...even if the film as a whole isn't what's called "fully successful."

Because every Craig movie so far that has tried continuing it's story has disappointed. These movies don't come as frequent as most franchises so it's nice to have a fresh story without the need of rewatches. You didn't need to have any prior knowledge to watch and enjoy CR or Skyfall and I believe that helps open up the franchise to new-comers.

Recent M:I films have just been shitting on all other action movies. 7 deserves that billion.

Cannot argree more, 7 made up for the over praise Ghost Protocol received. It wasn't just the stunts I loved but the twists were genuinely clever and surprising.

That’s fair. Although I haven’t found the continuation disappointing.

I agree Casino Royale and Skyfall work on their own, but the others are rewarding if you’re really into what they’re trying to do.

I still think NTTD works fine without even seeing the predecessors.

…and I still love QoS. Rage filled, frenetic. Complete with plotting that requires the audience to listen and keep up without worrying if they’re following along. Much more like the Bourne movies did.

Being a sequel to Casino Royale is the least of Quantum's problems(its got the storytelling of a direct to DVD action movie), and while Spectre does attempt to connect all the movies, its not exactly a direct sequel to Skyfall or any of the others in the way that Quantum was to Casino Royale.  I do agree though in the future that Bond movies should be standalone entries.

I am a little worried though that the next iteration of Bond is gonna be a cinematic universe of sorts with spinoff's(probably female 00 agents) since everything is a cinematic universe now.  Bond is one of the last old school IPs that still feels special, unique, and even eventful.  For instance, Disney has completely over-saturated Star Wars with bad uninspired movies to the point where I never even bothered to see Rise of Skywalker.   Never in my life would I thought I'd skip a Star Wars movie but here I am.  I hope that doesn't happen with Bond.
