The Shape of Water (Cold War supernatural thriller) | Dec 8 2017 | Del Toro co-writing/directing | Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon

Del Toro has a very vocal audience but his films almost never stick with the mainstream. He doesn't really do it for me but in hindsight, I would have liked to see his rendition of The Hobbit.

He would have been good for the Hobbit. Less CGI and more makeup for starters.

Went to see this on Tuesday.

I liked it, Sally was terrific, beautifully shot and the score was great.

But I didn’t end up emotionally invested and I thought the outcome was obvious. The plot was a lot more straight forward than I expected and most of the Michael Shannon stuff was really unnecessary.

I liked The Shape of Water, you have to accept it's an adult fairy tale with a straight forward plot and a lot of suspension of disbelief. The creature's design is amazing and it's a shame Del Toro dropped out of Justice League Dark because he could do Swamp Thing and Deadman justice.

It is kinda funny how much The Hobbit prequels mirror the Star Wars prequels.

Not a fan of the Hobbit prequels at all but the scene where the eagles soar over the mountains with the hobbits on their backs is incredible and for only one reason...the music.

I would have been interested in del toro doing JLD (especially with him handling Swamp Thing), but I'm sorta glad he did this instead. I prefer him directing his own original material.

While Get Out was my favorite to win I'm glad that a genre movie won and cockblocked 3B. :bravo:I didn't watch the Oscars but I'm happy to hear that 3B got rather cold shoulder save for acting (Script went to Peele, yay!).
