Scarlett Johansson is a good actress but her very promising career hasn't benefited at all from starring in about $900 gazillions of superhero movies. Lucy was probably better for her than all her MCU films combined; but then GitS unfortunately flopped. And unlike Portman she hasn't collected many awards in that time either.

 

At least her bank account did benefit.

I'm definitely hyped for this movie, I hope it happens!

 

People have been asking for a Black Widow movie for years, so from the fandom/hype side of things I feel this movie has more going for it than most MCU solo movies do.  As for the GA, well, that's always down to the movie itself and the marketing- but being a frickin' Avenger is a pretty good starting place.

She did a lot of acclaimed work and was never an actress who only chased either boxofice or awards. She has a very balanced career, and one of strongest careers among MCU regulars.

UPDATE: A little more input on the Black Widow director search. I hear Cate Shortland, but sources said not to count out Amma Asante (Belle) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) who round out the top three contenders culled from a field of 49. It was Shortland, Assante and Betts who met recently with Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Scarlett Johansson.
