Venom 2 not having the first day fan rush of an MCU/DCU movie was extremely predictable and was noted by many in this topic! It was clearly going to be more like an F9 performer.

I mean, sure, it's been something I've been noting all week.  But Venom 2 locally doing 73% more than Shang-Chi did on it's Sunday of release week made me want to pull a Cyber Ninja on my own data just because of it being that backloaded.

No joke: Venom 2 is selling better here in the three South Florida theaters I track than any movie since the restart, including F9 which usually does better than any franchise here. It might not be the hottest ticket in the traditional NY/LA markets, but in the more mid-tier markets it is cleaning up.

I think it's cleaning up in more diverse markets - the 1st one cleaned up in the non-Caucasian market.  Coupled with also cleaning up in the under 50 market and under 25 markets (and skewing male), and it's hitting the current active movie goer market squarely.  I said Venom 1's demo was very close to FF9's demo, so Venom 2 should clean up in a similar way...

 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/venom-a-dramatically-diverse-audience-makes-a-record-october-opening-1150068/

It's why I'm a broken record on Venom 2 OW over Bond OW for over a month:)...Bond hits a lot of the "not going" market - Venom doesn't...we'll see if Bond can break the "non goers" out of their rut...

I didn't realize Venom's audience was so diverse! But that makes it make total sense with the audience here in South Florida and why Fast series does so well.

Very shallow take when:

nobody was using the BW comps

TSS comps pointed to a much higher number than F9 comps, because tss was much more backloaded than F9

SC comps pointed to a pretty similar number as SC comps, because the MCU SC had a pretty similarly shaped PS run as an “F9 performer”

V2 is not acting like an F9, but gaining on it substantially

There’s no need to try to make this seem obvious or inevitable post hoc, because it wasn’t. Sometimes we get genuine surprises, otherwise this whole enterprise would be rather dull.

If Venom 2 became a breakout, then TSS is really a bomb in every way since both coming off from the critically panned predecessor.

There are multiple factors in plays.  Retarded decision on part of AT&T to blindly put everything on free in HBO Max irrespective of theater status. 2nd is this is not a sequel but a "soft reboot". Previous movie did have Will Smith. I dont think any of the actors in this movie had the star power. Plus trailers for previous movie had Batman, Joker etc. Did this movie had any of the big names in DCEU to evoke interest?

Doing extremely well here. Didn't expect it to do this well, so I guess Bond is more popular here than I thought.

I think audiences liked Venom 1 way more than the first Suicide Squad.

Plus TSS was released for free on HBO.
