I guess. But this makes the law incredibly broad. Kinda pointless.

These laws are pretty silly anyway. Don't think you can ever slap a single reason on why these movies do well.

That the point :P i tried to make a law that is so broad that every good performance of any movie can fit in. So my law is always correct :qotd:

If that's the case; I present the Lots of Money Law.

If a movie makes a lot of money, it has done well. 'Tis the law now.

Would it be too much to include Beauty and the Beast with the animated films for 2017.  It seems 2017 is missing that one giant animated hit, but if you include BATB then problem solved.

We are trying to be certain if a movie will do good or bad at the bo based on certain indicators. If such indicators existed, we would be too simplistic creatures and art wouldn't exist. Embrace chaos. Embrace uncertainty. That's how art flourishes.

according to the BOG weekend article, Wish Upon was not released in Canada.  Could someone please confirm when this will arrive in Canada and approx how many locations is it when a movie increases to include Canada?  I am thinking we will see less than a 50% drop if it expands next weekend.

I was looking for it this weekend and much to my chagrin, it was nowhere to be found.  That really ticked me off.  I doubt it will be released here now.

Not sure if anyone posted but interesting.data point on Atom promotion is that 23.7K reviews for Apes vs 6K for Spiderman.

The app sends you an easy review notification as you walk out of the movie so I think most people would do it (quick tap on the # stars).

Wild guessing 100-150k tickets for apes sold through Atom by saying 1 of every 3 will review and factoring in multiple tickets bought by one person (since BOGO offer).

Definitely a letdown for War for the Planet of the Apes after Dawn's performance three years ago and the excellent reviews. Then again, Fox ran a relatively weak campaign that didn't make this film look significantly different from the previous one (besides having different human stars) and wasn't as aggressive with it as they perhaps could have been. Nevertheless, those awesome reviews and stellar word-of-mouth should carry it to a total closer to Rogue Nation than Star Trek Beyond or Jason Bourne, among the BOM comparisons.

Spider-Man: Homecoming held worse than I was anticipating. Even with Apes generating less demand than expected, Spidey still took a huge hit. It should still be able to ride word-of-mouth and summer weekdays over $300 million, but the hopes of a 3.0 multiplier and a $350 million total have been obliterated. Still, it's performing quite well considering that it represents the third different continuity the character has occupied onscreen in the last decade.

Despicable Me 3 is beginning to level out nicely. It will need to hold even better from here on out and continue to exploit strong weekday business to have a shot at the $250 million milestone, but things certainly don't look as dire for it as they did a week-and-a-half ago.

Baby Driver had another terrific hold. As long as it continues to hold up well and Sony gives it a push around the end of the summer (which we all know they will), it should be able to squeak past $100 million.

The Big Sick put up middling numbers in its expansion, but I guess we shouldn't be that surprised; despite the great reviews and strong performance in limited release, it's still a low-profile comedy opening in the middle of the summer.

Wonder Woman continues to display excellent staying power. It will soon surpass Guardians as the highest-grossing summer release, and a $400 million finish is achievable.

Wish Upon is off to a weak start, as expected.

You had an IMDb account Blaze? Huh, never realized that. I actually posted a few times on The Expendables 3 board back in the day, ha.

Yep, Fancy. I was there for more than 11 years. My name was Kobold-23. I tried to use the same username here, but for some reason I couldn't. So I came with Blaze, which by the way was the same name that I used on House of Jigsaw forums, until Lionsgate closed everything.

Now that the new Saw movie is gonna be released, I hope Lionsgate comes back with the forums. Great times. :)

This is interesting. I love the 'Before' trilogy. One of the aspects that I find so interesting about it is that one's feelings about the three separate films are often shaped, I think, by wherever one is located in their own life course. I mean, each of the films themselves were created at very different times within the life course for the three central artists involved (Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy), and so I love how each film reflects the way we often view love and what love means when we're young and as we get older. You're a young person, and so it is interesting that you love 'Sunrise' but dismiss the other two. I encourage you to revisit the trilogy later in your life, once you hits your 20s, mid-20s, and 30s, etc. (I don't have time to get into it right now, but any argument that 'Sunset' is a cynical film, just doesn't hold up. Each of the films in the trilogy inspires in its own way.)

I was actually first introduced to Jesse and Celine in 'Before Sunset', back when it was released in 2004 - so at the time only Sunrise and Sunset existed. I fell in love with it. So I went back and watched Sunrise and I fell in love with it too. And it made 'Sunset' even richer.

Now with the full trilogy, I find that my favourite of the three will change depending on where I am in my life or my mood for the day/week/month. I seem to mostly go back and forth between 'Sunrise' and 'Sunset' right now. And yet 'Midnight' sits with me in a way that the other two don't. I wonder how my perspectives on the three films will change as I get older.

When I revisit the films, I sometimes will watch them in a different order, and I learn something new from doing so. I often wonder if the fact that I discovered 'Sunset' first, before the other two, shapes my perspective. I look forward to every time I revisit the trilogy, because I know that it will be a different experience each time, as I continue to evolve as a person and work through my own trajectories of love and life. It is such an interesting, complex, and beautiful trilogy.

Peace,

Mike

Oh I  certainly agree that part of it is that I find Sunrise more relatable. And I do find it interesting how Sunset and to a lesser extent Midnight do kind of reflect some of the conversations in Sunrise.

Just want to share how excited I am, just coming back from baby driver premiere, and Ansel Rlgort was here!!! People are crazy for him!!!

So grateful a hollywood star was here with Malaysian for premiere!!! We rarely get this kind of "treatment" from hollywood studio......

but so bad, Lily James was largely ignored here.......
