HAN SOLO MEMORIAL (day weekend) THREAD | Solo Flops Domestically with 83M/101M weekend. Spectacularly Bombs Overseas with 65M weekend.

From John Carter point of view maybe or the Lone Ranger.

Wait a minute -- Solo has basically grossed just about as much in its domestic OW as The Lone Ranger did in its domestic total. This is certainly not a flop on that kind of level. This is a mere disappointment compared to those films.

Next on agenda (after the FB is finished), should be a non-Cursed Child sequel with the crew back that will inevitably make +$2B worldwilde.

Both proposed films could happen. The Harry Potter verse is wide and expansive.

FORECASTS:

Solo:

Remainder of this week: 34.7M (118M Total)

Jun 1: 29.5M (12.4M weekdays, 159.9M Total)

Jun 8: 14.6M (6.7M weekdays, 181.2M Total)

Jun 15: 8.1M (3.5M weekdays, 192.8M Total)

Jun 22: 3.2M (1.7M weekdays, 197.7M Total)

Jun 29: 1.8M (1.3M weekdays, 200.8M Total)

Jul 6: 1M (600k weekdays, 202.4M Total)

Final Total: 205M (2.46x)

Yeesh. It's pretty insane that A Quiet Place is going to beat this in admissions.

Deadpool 2:

Remainder of this week: 21.9M (229.3M Total)

Jun 1: 17.4M (6.9M weekdays, 250.6M Total)

Jun 8: 8.3M (3.7M weekdays, 262.6M Total)

Jun 15: 4M (1.7M weekdays, 268.3M Total)

Jun 22: 1.4M (800k weekdays, 270.5M Total)

Jun 29: 800k (500k weekdays, 271.8M Total)

Final Total: 274M (2.18x)

I don't have this doing a single sub-50% drop until it's below 1M  This is a multi in line with Godzilla and Covenant as this weekend's hold was. Obviously future films will be fine considering how low the budgets are, but dropping 90M from the last movie is pretty disappointing.

Avengers: Infinity War:

Remainder of this week: 9.1M (630.8M Total)

Jun 1: 9.1M (4M weekdays, 643.9M Total)

Jun 8: 4.9M (2.4M weekdays, 651.2M Total)

Jun 15: 2.9M (1.6M weekdays, 655.7M Total)

Jun 22: 1.3M (900k weekdays, 657.9M Total)

Jun 29: 900k (600k weekdays, 659.4M Total)

Final Total: 662M (2.57x)

Keep in mind the June 8 drop is a bit pessimistic and could go any way. I don't see a scenario where this finishes under Titanic, but it's also not going to beat Black Panther. @Cmasterclay your club is a success unless this develops insane late legs!

Book Club:

Remainder of this week: 5.7M (37.5M Total)

Jun 1: 4.7M (3M weekdays, 45.2M Total)

Jun 8: 3M (1.9M weekdays, 50.1M Total)

Jun 15: 1.5M (900k weekdays, 52.5M Total)

Jun 22: 700k (500k weekdays, 53.7M Total)

Final Total: 56M (4.12x)

This might be the most unpredictable run of the year  The low Friday increase indicates this is heavily a weekday movie (not surprising given the target audience), so don't be surprised if next weekend's drop is close to 50%.

In hindsight, AOU's drop from Avengers was fucking amazing. These franchises wish they had that much retention for their sequels.

4 years later and we can now finally un-meltdown about AOU

If we really need to go forward then everytime a new movie is released that has a gay character there should be no buzz about it having a gay character positive or negative.

That the goal, once representation is reached also people will stop talking about is it good or bad representation and what minority characters can be (bad guy, killed at any time, anything) will open.

The Lone Ranger aint SW though.

Its not only about raw numbers. Its also about brands and expectations.

Is this the worst bomb in history? There are probably a handful of bigger money losers but in terms of a major franchise putting out a mega budget entry that falls into a volcano

Like, three billion $ grossers to this, is there any comparison?

While not "big" in the US - the world cup has always had an impact on the OS box-office but unlike say 12 years ago when things were shuffled for Dead Man's Chest, the OS has exploded which makes things that impact it seem more apparent.

Also in the Deadline article, I can't believe Disney is blaming DP2 as one of the reasons why Solo bombed. That's how you know, they're not going to learn anything from this bombing.

They better learn something until Episode IX's release date, lol.

Disney and LF can't take the fans and the franchise for granted. If they think Solo flopped just because of DP 2 and being a prequel, they need to think again. I'm sure there'll be a lot of pressure during Episode IX's filming.

They don't need another wake-up call like Solo.

IW isn't missing 2b. Those claims have been silly for weeks now, and this weekend settled it for good. It has 50m minimum left in the tank DOM. So how exactly is it going to miss adding another 40m OS after a 32m weekend?

The OS-C weekend drops should be ~40-45% lower starting next week, and lower drop percentage again. Chris Prart is both in IW and JW:FK, so the latter can pinpoint and motivate them to watch IW.

LOL right like this raunchy hyper violent R-rated movie is why your family friendly space adventure flopped? They’d have more reason to blame Infinity War but that’s their own company’s movie...

Closest I can think of is Last Knight... but LF wishes they had those numbers right now.

World Cup Final is the most watched event in the world by a shit-ton.. most concurrent viewers by far

Hmmm... I did a bit of research and here it says that the 2014 final was watched by 1 billion.

I didn't find anything for Rio 2016 but in London 0.9B watched the opening ceremony...

So I guess they are close. Not sure what's got the edge overall.

The Disney rep literally said "Deadpool 2 moving a week in front was a factor."

And I'm like no. No. That's not one of the reasons why your movie literally bombed in every single market it was released. If people truly wanted to see your movie, they would have skipped Deadpool 2 to see it or they would have seen both. *FacePalm*

And nevermind it just had one of the worst second weekend drops ever for a CBM. Clearly the competition from it is just too overwhelming!

I swear though, if Disney really learns nothing about what they're doing wrong with SW though then they completely deserve failure.

Alice 2 falling all the way $300M WW is about the only comparison out there.
