TLK is not an underpefromer and actual is likely going to be closer to 190M. Still they don't have bragging rights to 200M OW despite record number of theaters. if they didn't release it so wide than failing to make 200M would be easier to swallow. But they were clearly aiming for that milestone. No shame in missing it, the market is crowded with movies targeting the same audience (TS4, Aladdin) and similar (FFH).

Aladdin should cross 1B sometime next week. :bravo:

can EG get 10M more from staggered re-release? 2.8B would look really nice. :) But either way, congrats! :hi5:

If it was less serious and frankly better done I think 200 would have been easy and could have done 230+. It was good but just good.

I disagree. He’s always been more violent. Plus, it’s vampires.

Well they did just buy another studio that can put out R rated content

Is shazam a underperformer too?

Every single tentpole release WB put out this year is either an underperformer or a FLOP.

New official record for Lion King regardless of any change in actuals: highest opening weekend for a rotten film. Beat previous record holder BVS by $19m.

Also opened to more than double what Aladdin did.

Aladdin was never as big (not even close) nor did it have the biggest Broadway ever to keep interest up. Aladdin's 1B to me is more impressive than Lion King 1.6B if it hits that. Still 1.6B is massive but it's similar to the feeling if Infinity War did "only" 1.6 billion.

barely beating BATB is not really that great, but still an impressive number on its own

It's an underperformance. No way around it.

The Farewell's early numbers are massive but A24 just doesn't know how to properly take its movies wide.

The 8th biggest opening of all time. Where all the "what a flop" folks at?

I’ve learned that if a film doesn’t make 200 million in its opening weekend  then it’s a complete and utter failure

yeah I didn't read that Blade as going to be PG-13.  It was the only Marvel thing announced that i care about, the rest I will skip.  But now that Blade is PG13, I'm afraid they won't get that right now :(

Were did they say that? With Deadpool and Blade they could start making some R rated MCU movies and put them under the Fox banner.
