NO TIME TO DIE WEEKEND THREAD | Bond 56M, Venom 32M

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't mind a couple of one-offs to give the older stars their time to shine after missing out. Elba and/or Hardy.

I imagine Nolan has a very distinct take on Bond as well that would work for a one-off. He's pretty keen on On Her Majesty's Secret Service iirc.

For the longest time my pick was Dan Stevens, he nails the charming psychopath which is perfect for Bond. Alas, even he'll be 40+ when the next one rolls around.

Richard Madden would be a great pick, being Scottish is a big plus. Would start at a similar age as Craig. Marvel may have him tied down though.

Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya are interesting younger choices. They're such inspired, bold performers, I'm worried audiences wouldn't accept their takes but I'd love to see it.

Spoiler

Henry Golding was so bad in Snake Eyes I've lost all faith in him as a leading man

I remember him saying he would only come back for a new Bond actor and his last 2 attempts were pretty damn good

Reaching into the past is the best way for Bond to become completely irrelevant. IMO, of course.

Weren’t Pierce Brosnan’s bond films absolutely horrendous? Keep him away, I’d say.

Goldeneye was and is incredible.

Tom Hardy got Venom coming off The Revenant which gave him an Oscar nom and media attention. He had bro appeal before that with Mad Max, Inception and TDKR. He appeared in Dunkirk. He’s no draw because very few are, but he’s popular. Always rumored for Bond.

Venom is an iconic character but what people love about the movies is entirely due to Tom Hardy. His hammy and zany performance and the bromance is all him. Venom 1 was an average film he elevated for the masses because of his goofiness and improvisation. He turned the film into a meme. Without Hardy, Venom would have been a generic superhero flop without humor. He literally fought with the Director and studio on set of one. That’s why he wrote the sequel

Tom Hardy is a draw here in the UK. We had films like Legend make alot here on his name alone but i don't even think it hit cinemas in the US, or if it did it was limited. Its not just the bros that like him though, it's the women too, he's got that sex appeal

But Goldeneye and Casino Royale were vastly different from each other even if they shared the same director

The next Bond iteration needs to also have a consistent gap between releases as well. Ideally 2 or 3 years. I think the Craig era was hindered a bit by the large gaps between instalments.

But I also get the counter arguments it may hurt the quality of the films.

Oh I really like Tomorrow Never Dies as well. I mean the villain is pretty on point for today

Tomorrow Never Dies well forever get a pass from me as it's my first bond film.

As somebody with zero nostalgia for Bond, that film just flat-out rules. Michelle Yeoh's amazing, Brosnan's having a good time, Jonathan Pryce is basically a mix of Rupert Murdoch and Steve Jobs, but somehow even more evil. It's amazing.
