No promotion to that audience...and probably not a lot of trust about the content.

Angel Studios (and other micro studios) have probably changed the game for how to reach them...

It's a musical version of the story of The Nativity starring the dude from For King & Country and Academy Award Nominee Antonio Banderas sporting clearly fake abs for who knows what reason.

Journey To Bethlehem' Live-Action Christmas Musical Event With Antonio Banderas - Movies

No one should be surprised that the studio wasn't able to sell anyone on it lol.

It also has Milo Manheim, who is one of the major characters in the Thanskgiving horror movie next weekend as well. We appreciate a versatile nepo baby.

Regardless of anyone being surprised, it’s still a bomb.

Just because it was expected, doesn’t mean it’s not a bomb. We have two of them this weekend.

I'm not ready to call Marvel dead yet because we still have Deadpool 3 coming up next year (thank goodness), but yeah, the brand is really on life support right now and drastic changes needs to be made. Kevin Feige was succesful in the past because he was kept in check by a creative committee that made sure the movies where appealing and marketable in the toy industry and Ike Perlmutter made sure the budgets where reasonable. Ever since Iger got rid of Ike and the committee, and made Feige unchecked and unbound, the quality has gone way down, the toy sales are down and now the ratings in D+ and the box office has gone down, and the budgets are way out of control.

I know creative control and no studio interference sound lovely for artists and I support that, but too much creative control can lead to this kind of situation. Kevin Feige was no messiah, he was just really lucky to have insanely talented artist like Jon Favreau or James Gunn to make the MCU what it was.

Ike was terrible though, he was always a hindrance than a help. I think having too many projects on the go with TV and films was the issue and not having enough time to oversee them. This won't be an issue for DP3 or even the next Spider-Man because those have other producers overseeing them.

My perspective on the outlook of the CBM genre is that it’s not dead, but it is on very shaky ground. 2024 probably won’t change much with the lack of movies and shows out, other than reaffirming that the Sony Marvel Universe isn’t going on a proper direction (Venom 3 is the only film from that universe next year I expect to actually make any money). DP3 and Joker 2 should be successful financially wise but I am curious about the response they get. 2025 feels like the more important year for both Marvel and DC, and I suppose the genre as a whole.

MCU is not dead.

Just that Endgame was THE END for the audience.

Many people now just don't follow MCU Story or saga, they just pick & choose whatever project they feel like its worth their time.

Earlier during Infinity Saga, people were invested in the bigger story so there was something of a factor where even the less stronger movies didn't used to flop, they would be successful in some way.

Want to congratuate our tireless trackers on bang on job! :bravo:

As for Gen Z and Alpha, they will find their own heroes, not these hand-me-downs from Millenials. That's what studios don't get. Replacing old faves with younger versions is not going to appeal to next generation cause next generation needs its own heroes. And new versions of previous generation heroes are not their heroes.

I think the baton could've been passed down if the Marvel movies after phase 3 were actually, ya know, good.

The problem is they rested on their laurels and have been running on fumes since Black Widow.

Cinematic Universes are fun when you build towards something and the journey is filled with crowd pleasers that lead to a grand conclusion not just empty filler that leads to nowhere.

Fire fiege and replace him with who? . It's clear his spread thin since his promotion. It's too early . Should go back to basics. " Characters first, world second" .

It's clear they wanted bigger, better ,more characters and didn't understand the logistics required and wanted content out faster.

Hired to many novice writers .even some of those Ricky and Morty writers just wrote a few episodes and couldn't handle jumping to 200m+ dollar projects.

Overall feels like no cohesion along channels .

Why shouldn’t Feige maybe step down? He had a great run but this is the guy that thought Eternals was Oscar worthy, Ant Man was a banger, Captain Marvel was going to be the new face of the MCU

What do you expect him to say? If Kevin Feige is talking in public it's to sell their slate.

"Eternals is too long and the characters aren't clicking, Ant-Man's in rough shape, and we're still not sure what to do with Captain Marvel. Please buy tickets!"

They are not firing Kevin Feige but say goodbye to movies with no audience like The Marvels. Disney aren't going to let him do that again.

How do you gauge that? How can you say "this film had no audience", when the first film made over $1 billion? a.k.a. the biggest solo film for a new MCU character.

Not making a sequel to Captain Marvel was never a reasonable option. I don't think they could have predicted at the time that people wouldn't show up to Captain Marvel 2.

Zero percent chance that happens. Marvel was worth 4 billion when Disney bought it and he's at least tripled it's value. Disney is not stupid enough to just hand him to Warner Bros

Nah - $34M production budget for Journey to Bethlehem...almost no P&A spend, so they obviously decided they weren't gonna be able to sell it and cut their losses...

Probably makes $3-5M this weekend and legs to $15-20M DOM and matches OS, for a not good result, but not a bomb b/c it just didn't cost enough to be one.

He couldn't go to WB anyway unless either James Gunn or Peter Safran stepped aside.

They made some blunders with the character. They gave her just 5 min screentime in Endgame & after that they just forgot about her for 4.5 years.

Wrong basics - STORY 1st, Characters 2nd, World-building 3rd.  Their plotting and scripts have been horrific, and the cause of so many folks abandoning them, followed by their inability to make you feel for their characters (which problem plots tend to make a problem).  They have to reverse the order entirely...
