Arrival | Nov 11, 2016 | Villeneuve/Adams/Renner | First Reviews Have Arrived.

Damn.

It’s hard to adequately describe the immensity of the ambition of Denis Villeneuve‘s “Arrival,” a film that dances with concepts so colossal they’ve rather obliterated most of the previous films that have attempted to grapple with them (Robert Zemeckis‘ “Contact” and Christopher Nolan‘s “Interstellar” come to mind).

I posted a few times in this thread saying this will be the best sci-fi alien invasion flick of this year considering the source material. But to top all similar type of films dealing with heavy ideas...now that's something! Move away Nolan, we have a new GOD in town.

I will die of laughter if Villeneuve gets a Best Director nomination before Nolan. And Mr. Pink will die of ceasing to exist.

This is pleasing. Contact is pretty meh and Interstellar gets jumbled in the last hour.

Villenueve is one of my favorite directors working today and Sicario was my #1 of last year

Between Magnificent, Deepwater, Moana, Strange, La La Land, Loving, Moonlight, Billy Lynn, Hacksaw Ridge, Blair Witch, Accountant, Girl On The Train, Passengers (if it makes it), Rogue One, Beasts and now this, Fall/Winter of 2016 is the real Summer season as far as I'm concerned.

Reactions from Telluride even better than these from Venice

@MarkLikesMovies
#Arrival is a game-changer; deeply profound, mesmerizing. Not going 2 be 4 all, but 4 those its 4, it will simply amaze. @AwardsCircuit

Well I just what will probably be my favorite film of the year. Arrival. Just incredible. No words. Many words. #TellurideFilmFestival

@firstshowing
Arrival - Phenomenal. Uber intelligent, gorgeous, deeply moving movie for the times. Mind blowing in every way, a major milestone in sci-fi.

@kristapley
I remain fascinated by what Denis Villeneuve can do with scripts that would be nothing without him. King of atmosphere. #Telluride

@firstshowing
Seriously it's the most thought provoking alien sci-fi since Contact. And Denis Villenueve makes it utterly believable. I'm totally floored.

@aliciamalone
ARRIVAL: wow, still processing but I really enjoyed that ride. Felt like Kubrick + Malick + Nolan but still all Villeneuve! #Telluride

ARRIVAL was great, smart, human, with a pro-life message. It was dense and not over bloated, with a satisfying...
