Nah, Jon Watts Spider-man movies were at least funny. Sonic looks like the Garfield and Smurfs movies. At least I know I laughed way more watching this (Naked Idris Elba turning into dust, Taylor Swift shaking her fake cat tits, James Corden hissing and licking his paws) than the Sonic who makes a witty remark every 5 seconds.

Honestly if this film turns out to be breakout like TGS, it will prove how important buzz is to the marketing despite it is badly received

The only 80s mega musicals that have yet to made into films are Starlight Express which I can't see anyone touching and Miss Saigon, the latter is more suited for a film adaptation,

The first trailer made it look like it would be something bad but kind of memorably bad.   This new one just makes it look dull

That's pretty much what they are doing. "Spirit" from the new version of Lion King also sounds a bit like "The Circle of Life" in parts. Predictable but I get the strategy, and sometimes a song being a pale Imitation of a better one in the past is enough for an Oscar anyway. "Writing's on the Wall" is widely viewed as similar yet inferior to "Skyfall" and it still won. It just depends on the competition for the year.

Somehow they went with motion capture to avoid just having some people in silly cat costumes with ears and some fur, and wound up designing CG characters that look like people in silly cat costumes with ears and some fur.

I love Taylor Swift and I think Cats looks terrible visually and terrible in every other way possible. That still doesn't mean that it won't be a hit of course. It could very well be a hit at the box office.

Musicals generally do very well during Christmas season even if the opening is low. This is a different beast though. Will the audience be interested in watching live action humanoid cats singing and dancing?

The amount of attention these trailers are getting and yet it’s probably gonna flop at the box office. But who knows! Maybe folks will want to see just how bad it is. I mean it’s why people stop and stare at car wrecks. Maybe CATS will get the same treatment this holiday season.

I am ambivalent on this one box office wise, going all-in in the style, maybe it will attract people (but also maybe not), I can see it go both ways.
