Reviews aren't that bad

If you go inside expecting a B-movie, with fast pacing, creatures & quips to keep you busy..I think theres a good chance youll be entertained by it.

Fair point, though it's a different kind of shock. Movies like Borat sort of exploit that many USA peeps do enjoy poking fun at themselves (one of the yet barely still standing great things about USA) and some levels of gross out humor. Not too sure how it'd do these days with PC culture being in the forefront tho.

What the hell is this crap? This has nothing to do with PC culture. This sounds like those conservatives who say "Blazing Saddles would never be made today because of PC culture". No. The movie is getting terrible reviews because it cares more about the violence and the swearing than it does about the plot. It just gets overbearing and boring. Even torture porn films like Martyrs have better reviews. Suspiria from last year also has one of the most violent and disturbing scenes of the past two years (happening to a woman) but the movie has mixed to positive reviews. The Night Comes For Us is one of the goriest action films ever and it is sitting with 88% on RT. Even Lars Von "I understand Hitler" Trier movies get better reviews than this. Hellboy, on the other hand, is being shat on by most critics.

OP was on about how the movie could be getting bad reviews because of PC critics and I just wanted to say that they never exist. Same applies when talking about raunchy comedies. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the most politically incorrect shows ever (characters literally do blackface once) but the last two seasons are at 93% on RT and every other season has a 100% except for the first one. The 9th season of The Peep Show also is at 100% even though that show is extremely politically incorrect.

1. RT has been giving consensus and ratings VERY early on reviews for quite a while
2. There would be more reviews if they didn't drop the embargo at the last minute and held critic screenings
3. They chose the date for the drop of the embargo
4. Even after 100 reviews that rating isn't getting much better with those reviews
5. I guess he missed RT % tweets for for F4 (2015), BvS, SS, Venom

And their character are presented has bad people and denounce the bad aspect/historical aspect of it, it is a somewhat to very politically correct show.

 

I am not sure why do you quote someone asking himself how Borat would be received today for saying Hellboy is receiving bad review because it is a bad movie.

The trailers were poop so the reviews don't surprise me.

 

Mind you, I didn't like the previous movies either and wouldn't go out of my way to watch them, even for free on TV

I'm guessing he's pissed because he's a Neil Marshall (the director) fan and he doesn't like that the movie has bad reviews. I am a Marshall fan too (Dog Soldiers might be the best horror action movie ever and The Descent might have the best art design for a horror film not made by Del Toro) but this looked terrible from the start and nothing like a Neil Marshall film. Yeah, a bad RT score being shown everywhere is nasty but that is the fault of the film, not RT (who does that for literally every blockbuster since Justice League which is a DC film with bad reviews).

It appears to be one of Those Films that can be enjoyed with a certain mind set.  Whether folks actually have that mindset is up to them.

I think a lot of the general discussions about RT ratings and score miss or forget for a moment this detail:

a movie can there actually be a 4/10 and fresh, if the reviewer adds that detail (if not, RT tries to interpret out of the rating, or if it os failing that to deliver too, out of the text)

Fresh - rotten only stands for it is enjoyable (and that means sometimes it is still enjoyable beside...) or not, the way less obvious presented rating average says what to expect for quality.

 

I've also seen 7/10 with rotten added, and when reading through the text it was clear that was no mistake.

Like all the film making markers for pacing, light/camera, acting... was great, but the story itself was not enjoyable, e..g. something about the style in combinations with... did not make it enjoyale.

Like if the light is constantly flickering to a degree you get headaches... that alone can be a reason, but others too.

I've seen not enjoyable for disturbing scenes, like how rape was shown in a movie.... too, mostly then more than one scene was the reason.

 

I have not read through the 4/10 review, this here was only about it might be a possible example for the RT system. Maybe someone will remember in 2 weeks or during another newbie magnet 😉

No the blurb itself made it obvious that it was a negative review. I looked again just now and that same review is now marked as rotten.

I think criticizing RT tweet is fine and reasonable but why are some on Twitter being so protective over a vapid studio controlled Deadpool wannabe movie? Marshall, as far as I know, did no on camera interviews for the thing, it's pretty clear that it's not really his movie. Laughing at a dumb studio movie getting bad reviews is fine.

You were on about "PC critics" and how politically incorrect movies don't get good reviews multiple times in this thread. And you don't have to be an asshole to me (but I do guess that many people who use the word PC unironically also love to talk crap about others). I miss you and your bullcrap arguments too.
