From what transpired Mr. Ellison do not want too, they are trying to refinance the company big debt (say some 60 cent on the dollar) with the banks, throwing around the menace of a bankruptcy and loosing business with one of the biggest fortune in history has the stick.

I may be trapped.

I know it's because you're in Australia but it's nuts for someone in Canada seeing a bunch of snow somewhere in August! Must be how you feel in December/January/February when we have our cold/snowy/miserable winters (at least on the prairies).

This is very serious and alarming, new governments of Ecuador and Brazil are destroying the Amazon forest. Hopefully a democratic socialist is elected as POTUS next year and there's an American intervention. Our planet is at risk.

You think Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren would send troops to South America to protect the rain forest?

The First season of Amazon's Lord of the Rings show is expected to be around 20 episodes emot-allears.gif

Also,

“The First and Third Ages are ‘off-limits’, you can’t have the First Age. Events could be mentioned at the most if they explain the events of the Second Age. But if it is not described or mentioned in the

Lord of the Rings or in the appendices, they probably cannot use it. So the question is to what extent they may hint at events that took place, for example, in the First Age, but still continue to affect the Second Age. There are several maps authorized by Tolkien, not just the ones we are familiar with, and some of those maps have places on them which are not in the other maps. But if Tolkien authorized them then that’s okay. So it’s a bit of a minefield. You have to tread very carefully but at the same time there is quite a lot of scope for interpretation and free invention.”

The Tolkien Estate will insist that the main shape of the Second Age is not altered. Sauron invades Eriador, is forced back by a Númenorean expedition, is returns to Númenor. There he corrupts the Númenoreans and seduces them to break the ban of the Valar. All this, the course of history, must remain the same. But you can add new characters and ask a lot of questions, like: What has Sauron done in the meantime? Where was he after Morgoth was defeated? Theoretically, Amazon can answer these questions by inventing the answers, since Tolkien did not describe it. But it must not contradict anything which Tolkien did say. That’s what Amazon has to watch out for. It must be canonical, it is impossible to change the boundaries which Tolkien has created, it is necessary to remain “tolkienian.”

Every candidate, specially the more socialist one all have a really strong non interventionist-going around telling country what to do, using menace, etc... stance.

Deforestation is mostly driven by Brazilian food production (often small family operation) would it be beef ranch or Soybean production to feed beef all around the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deforestation_in_Brazil#Causes

The annual rate of deforestation in the Amazon region continued to increase from 1990 to 2003 because of factors at local, national, and international levels.[7] 70% of formerly forested land in the Amazon, and 91% of land deforested since 1970, is used for livestock pasture

The way to stop it seem for the world to stop beef consumption (and I guess US being a big market a Potus could make measure to help reduce american beef consumption)

I did come here to ski so I should expect it. However, this a big storm with a low snow level. My car is parked at the base of the Skitube which is normally below the snow line.  There was about a foot of snow on the ground this morning. I’m supposed to leave today.

i think they're both great (though to me LPS was the only great film bogdanovich ever made so maybe peckinpah was onto something and he's right that blacktop is the better film also). it's also the least surprising thing in the world that he'd hate the former. that's like trying to get Mel Gibson to like Booksmart, I can't see it happening.
