Official Oct 5 to Oct 7 Weekend Thread | Official Estimates: Venom - 80M (205M WW OW); A Star is Born - 42.6M

Recommended Posts

Venom is the Iron Man of Sonyverse, a completely generic story elevated to heavens high by a star-making turn of its leading man. Welcome to the big league, Tom! You were flirting with superstardom but this is it, man. You did it. You fuckin did it! Venom success is 100% down to what Tom brings to the table, like RDJ before him. Go see this movie! It's really funny and Tom's performance is an all-timer. :bravo:

Sigh I wish Snyder got to direct JL and then certain fanboys would have seen it would have gotten the same box office result (because General Audiences don't give a damn who is directing the film unless it's James Cameron or Nolan).

Anyways Venom was a blast whenever Tom Hardy and Venom were interacting. Otherwise it's mostly pretty boring.

No More Mad Max  Fury Road Trilogy for you.

Nothing but Venom 2, Venom 3, Venom runs errands, Venom at the Beach, Venom Vs his double Upgrade Guy etc

Cinephiles, you re all grounded.

Yeah, well, perhaps if MMFR was more about Tom and less about Charlize GA would have embraced it better. It was a big critical hit but GA didn't show up in droves. OTOH, this is a critical turd but GA is raving and flocking to Tom show.

People love Tom. It was just a matter of time for him to get the right role that utilizes his star charisma and Venom is it.

To me, he is already a movie star in BRONSON (see above).

I always thought: what if Warner Bros had cast him as the Joker

instead of Heath? Unfortunately, after he is given these major roles

(Bane, Mad Max), he never really achieves that giddy acting high as

he did in BRONSON.

I want to see Venom. It sounds like a fun wreck. Def more fun than all those shitty Marvel movies that score 90+ on RT but you forget about one week later.

Just like the lieutenant from die hard, every time you open your mouth something stupid comes out. You’d be better off not talking.

Nice hold for Smallfoot (and nice Friday) even with the huge openers...it has a chance for the long legs this month:)...

Depending on legs, Venom and ASIB could have a tight race DOM

I was IN on that club but considering Venom is having a pretty good IM over its OW, I expect it’ll have decent legs throughout its run. Prob looking at over $200M domestic for Venom.

I'm sure Smallfoot will have good legs as the only animated film until The Grinch (Nov. 9th). Word of mouth will probably be good, as the film is eloquent enough to deserve it.

Venom seeing an opening similar to Ant-Man and the Wasp is a big surprise. Funny book movies, their power (even when the reviews are weak)! A sequel is a sure thing now. Sony might have a nice little universe going for them if they make some improvements in the quality department and keep the budgets under control.

A Star is Born will likely do just over $45M which is also a fantastic result for an adult-driven drama (even if there was a rush factor among Lady Gaga fans). Legs should be great despite some competition coming up.

Next weekend will be tight for number 1.

I'm thinking Venom will stay at #1 with around $32-34M (and A Star is Born is #2 with around $30M unless it has a crazy hold). WOM isn't great but it's better than the likes of Batman v Superman, Fantastic Four '15, etc.
