Congratulations for Aladdin getting to the $1B-mark. 💁🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

It really baffles me though that Disney couldn’t do everything in it’s power to push TJB (2016) to the $1B, despite that film being the highest acclaimed Disney live action remake that they made so far. 🙍🏻‍♀️

That film made $966M WW, which is one of the closer films to that mark.

Yes they are. A 3 hour meditation in the woods with very short bursts of action is a risky sell. He's not doing Disney's™ Hercules or something.

That movie sold so well because it was Leo's big push for oscar. everyone wanted to see the movie that will finally give him the oscar.

not denying he's a draw, but just saying he's having his pick of working with the best of the best

look at RPatz, his movies until now flopped because he worked with mediocre or obscure directors, but now that he's gonna work with Nolan, his movie will do big business

Had it released in May, it would had a chance but releasing it in April in a way hurt it a little.

But best of the best doesn't guarantee big boxoffice or most movies in Top 10, 20, etc yearly and all time would have been directed by best of the best. Which they are not. Revenant may have been his big push for Oscar but it was curiously around him that turned it into 500M hit. replace him with Fassbender or Isaac or whatever other actor that Internet tried to make into a star and you get 500K.

I am just so happy when original movies are successful. Makes me have some hope that in the Disney dominated industry, the studios that will survive will give original movies a chance.

Yeah, that's a release schedule teeming with originality

Fassbender is no where near the celebrity that Leo is. he's a pop culture phenomenon, everybody knows him. nobody has heard of the fass. you need to compare leo with his counterparts, like brad pitt, johnny depp.

Tarantino underperformed with Hateful 8 a decidedly less star power driven movie than Django and Bastards so Leo cannot be discounted as at least an added value with Brad if not a draw with him. The selling point was clearly Leo&Brad finally together.  Scorcese underperformed with Hugo and outright bombed with Silence, his Leo-less movies. All movies he made with Leo, save GONY made over 100M dom. Nolan, see the boxoffice for his original movies w/o Leo and the one with Leo and it's a pretty big difference.

To be fair, that probably has as much to do with the concepts of his other films minus Leo. Both Dunkirk and Interstellar are less GA friendly than Inception. Still, Leo breaks down that barrier of credibility needed for a film like Inception.

Except those people who checked in "hell no!" box when they were told that he starred in Steve Jobs.

point being, there are kazillion celebrities that Internet think are big names cause they are memes and then their movies flop with GA. Millie Bobby Brown's 50M IG followers and 1000 memes don't mean shit to GA so Godzilla flopped and so will Ebola Holmes.

It was curiosity around how Leo was being tortured by his Oscar winning director.  The entire publicity push for that movies months before we saw a single shot or even poster was about how much Leo was suffering for his art and how he deserved an Oscar.  Also how the budget was exploding b/c they wanted to keep it "real".   Then we got the freaky stuff with the bear and everyone had to see it.

I'd say it's a symbiotic relationship between Leo and all star directors.

It would be interesting to see Leo go back to small budget and riskier.  Pitt's had a far more adventurous screen career than Leo - as an actor and a Producer.

If they only released Once Upon a Time in Hollywood this year they'd still be releasing more original films than Disney in 2018+2019 combined.
