May 5, 2022 P $36,000,000   0     $36,000,000
May 6, 2022 1 $90,000,000   4,534 $19,850   $90,000,000 1

Saturday estimate more than $1M below numbers posted in here, same as Friday. Interesting...

I knew Mother's Day wouldn't be too kind to this film. I don't think this'll be quite the lowball you all are hoping for. Detective Pikachu similarly crumbled in the same May timeframe.

Add in the divisive WoM, and $400M isn't looking so certain anymore.

Has there ever been a 5m difference between studio estimates and actuals?

I mean percentage terms it is a mere 2.7% but I was thinking 190m.

I did not like the movie at all, genuinely did not enjoy it but I still hope for good box office and theater recovery.

Yes. Iron Man 2, but that was adjudged 5m DOWN

Yeah estimates rise by more than 5M/2.7% all the time

Thor and Black Panther were always going to give us the best idea of the MCU's box office future because the Shang Chis/Black Widows were always bound for a big drop and Dr. Strange is locked in an eternal debate over whether it should be treated as a Doctor Strange movie, NWH sequel, big inflection point in the MCU, etc. Thor and Panther seem pretty clearly like "regular big MCU movies" in a way Iron Man 3 and Winter Soldier once did.

Disney has given $7M less estimates for IW, EG and I think similar for Black Panther

Honestly reading this thread is draining. Seems the end of the MCU is near, the negativity…

Naturally an ageing franchise like this will lose fans, will become more front-loaded, other franchises will start to come along. It’s natural,  Marvel will falter eventually and some will be happy to see it.

RIP MCU. It was fun while it lasted.

I think BP2 has some pretty unusual circumstances itself, but yeah Thor should be a good indicator.
