I think this week basically show that, the golden age of superhero movies are gone. You have to be that great like GOTG3 and ATSV, in order to perform like pre-pandemic average superhero film.

Great, people can stop saying superhero movies are ruining cinema then.

$150M for Barbie and $75M for Oppenheimer are now the floor for both IMO. Barbie should have an IM higher than GOTG3, and a 7x IM for a three-hour adult biopic should be a cakewalk.

This super blockbuster weekend is going to be number porn. First the reviews and now the box office. I’m hoping for a $300M weekend total. $314M weekend total for #2 all-time would be one for the ages.

That is 100% not the floor.

Not only are Barbie and Oppenheimer CRUSHING the box office, but at this time of writing, they are both 90%+ on RT with critics and audiences. Not only that, but their critic and audience scores are perfectly aligned at 90/90 for Barbie and 94/94 for Oppy :ohmygod:

Barbenheimer is off to an epic start, from the looks of it, seems like this train is just getting started.

Oppenheimer’s $10m would lead to $68m if it follows Nope’s exact trajectory, and $83m if it follows John Wick 4. $70m seems very likely imo, hoping for even more. Barbie I’m more unsure on, it seems like the audience is a bit unique for this one. Hoping $150m or more.

Kids love Barbie in general. Especially little or preteen girls who grew up with the brand.

But here is the thing… Those little or preteen girls have been playing with Barbie since 1959. You have built in brand recognition across four generations of women. Even the knock offs, are still referred to as “Barbies.”

And (most) everyone had one at some point. The base ones sold at Toys’R’Us (#RIP) were like $10-$20. They were not some like exclusive, expensive toy.

I keep saying this but the real winner of Barbie doing so well isn't WB, it's Mattel, they've managed to one up both Hasbro and Lego.

Only those clowns decided this was the year NOT to release a SDCC exclusive Barbies. 😤 Which as someone at SDCC right now is just so dumb. They always have a Barbie! Except the year there is a Barbie movie? (And they also have started selling these online, so it’s not like oh no only 100 people can’t get them. They could’ve me to a buck off this!)

Enjoy this while we can cause I don't see this perfect storm of events happening anytime soon for two movies that are as different as each other yet oddly connected in a weird way.

mmm idk bout that

Let's bet if they will have the same cinemascore. Then the Barbieheimer storm is complete.
