THANK GOD. It would make no sense to keep something with this much massive potential without an IMAX release given the emptiness of the market when it comes out.

It's flabbergasting that this is actually the 1st ever IMAX horror release. You'd think that IMAX would be perfect for horror.

Wasn't Paranormal Activity 4 released in IMAX? I remember thinking "nothing says IMAX like Found Footage"

I think this could have a great multiplier too.  If the reviews are good, I think it can open to 70.

If audiences like it, I think it could do a 3.5X.

The assumption that the legs must be bad/mediocre is strange to me. The legs might be bad, might be okay or might flat out be great. We just don't know right now. The quality and watchablity will be the thing that ultimately matters. My legs assumption is if the film is good and not hard to watch like say Apes 3 then why would a 3.0 multi be impossible?

Few things about horror really scream IMAX. Even classically done horror that's not torture porn or found footage is often naturally about closed spaces and environments rather than spectacle, and if anything a smaller screen is more effective. I don't see what The Conjuring would have gained from IMAX, and I doubt this movie is getting it for any real reason other than bigger box office. Even among the classics the only movies I can think of that would benefit from the format are The Shining cause aerial shots and sound work, and maybe Alien cause space. I'd say Eraserhead but it'd probably give people PTSD.

Warner Brothers posted it online earlier. The trailer for it has a new line from Pennywise and the actual experience is a lot of fun.

Not sure if Bill voiced Pennywise in it but it sounds a lot like him. He says three lines a lot differently in the actual film though and I think a lot of the voicework was recorded just for the experience. You can actually do it right from your phone if you have the right model (it requires looking around). Score sounds solid.

I'm not seeing how this gets a 3x.

It's a very highly anticipated movie, which means opening weekend should be very large, especially Thursday previews.

It's a horror movie, and horror movies rarely get 3x, and that's from much smaller openings.

This could buck the trends, but I'm not seeing it yet.  I would love to be proven wrong though!

I'm all about a monster opening weekend, but legs will be average horror legs.

Agreed. Look no further than Annabelle: Creation to see how frontloaded a horror film with good WOM can be.

But this isn't Annabelle Creation and it's not Split or any other horror movie.  This is a movie that seems, at least so far, to have everyone's attention.  In order for it to achieve a 3X, it's going to need good reviews and great WOM.  If that happens, regardless of where it opens, I think it hits a 3-3.5X.
