The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Checked my theater at 6PM and for the weekend with only 1 out of 13 stadiums playing Spiderman over the weekend it was at

Thursday: 167/390
Friday: 112/520
Saturday: 44/520
Sunday: 0/520

Just checked again for midnight and it's at

Thursday: 219/390
Friday: 181/520
Saturday: 69/520
Sunday: 13/520

So an extra 160 tickets in just 6 hours, they'll probably add some more shows tommorrow.

Scrolling back I found AEG sales for next day early afternoon (1:30pm) (so more like 29 1/2 hours) but not including the early fan showings on Wed.  It started off with 14 shows and crazily 3D were 7 of them.  Interestingly, no 3D shows for SM.

So, any chance Sony will announce what the first 24 hours of presales were like?

We won’t get a hard num, but fandango/deadline should do an “over tfa, 2nd beat ever, almost endgame” kind of article.

The Matrix is clearly looking to be completely overshadowed by Spider-Man. Not surprised it's looking to get the raw end of the deal in the battle for IMAX/PLF screens over the holidays. Not that WB cares too much probably since it's the last of the HBO Max titles.

Avenger: EG came out 26 April 2019 and John Wick 3 on 9th May and it survived and delivered enough.

maybe, History will kind of repeat itself.

But with HBO MAX as well its going to be very tough for The Matrix.

Here in the biggest IMAX cinema around me, Spider-man loses one IMAX show (which I assume goes to Matrix) on Wednesday and there's a 7 hr long gap between the two shows it has, where I think Matrix will get another show. In the 2nd biggest IMAX cinema, Spider-man loses two shows on Matrix day.

Edit: @Blankments, I just checked the Regal IMAX in Chicago and seems like Spider-man loses a couple of IMAX shows on Wednesday too.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-17 and Counting

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 129 11770 25482 46.19%

Comp

1.550x of Black Widow's Final Count (20.46M)

2.247x of Venom 2's Final Count (20.07M)

Adjusted Comp

0.972x of Star Wars: TROS T-17 (38.9M)

So for context's sake: The reason why I'm doing final count for Widow and Venom is, simply put, the film is outclassing every film that came out this year by a landslide in just one day. This is the first time since Rise of Skywalker I had to compare final counts because the ranking was so high, which goes to show you just how earth-shattering this movie is doing right now.

And while I know many people are comparing to TROS' first day, the big bombshell here is that at the same T-17 mark, Home is already on par with Rise, which was already on sale for about two months or so at the same point in time. That says a hell of a lot. Way more than this outpacing every 2021 movie.

Papa Feige, you've done it again!

How many theaters are you able to get shows from?
